Mbox 2 Mini 2 on Win10 in 2020
 

Hi folks,

My simple question is for the people using an Mbox 2 Mini: How is your Mbox setup and how did you get it working?

I wanted to get it working on Windows 10 after recently upgrading from 7 and I ran into some issues with Pro Tools First. I decided to try and see if it would work with the latest software rather than the older ones, and turns out that it can. When I have a clean working installation of Pro Tools First and I install the drivers, the Mbox 2 Mini works.

The problem occurs when I reboot. I get a hard blue screen of death right away on my laptop, the ASUS ROG GL753VD It always requires a startup repair that rolls back the Mbox Driver, Pro Tools First or usually both. In another test I tried to install Pro Tools First on my older PC and the driver caused my PC to lock up and I needed to do a fresh install. This wasn't as tragic as I had recently done a fresh install due to other issues.

Sometimes I do see others using this device still but with Windows 10 and no drivers support, it seems like this Box is a Brick now. I'm just looking to confirm this and if anyone has been able to fix it.

At one point I did have it working with a beta driver, but in Audacity and not Pro Tools for some reason. Weirdly enough, I believe what happened is that I used the a beta driver for a regular Mbox 2. I did not try the latest Mbox 2 driver as it appears to be the same version of the Mbox 2 Mini and likely is the same driver.

I was looking into how to omit the driver from causing issues on startup but that was more advanced than I could figure out, but I may give that a shot.

Found someone who had the same problem, tried installing win 7, then installing the Mbox then upgrading to Win 10 to get it to work.

That's too much trouble for me, so I'm just gonna buy a new mixer.

I just resolve this.

Install 1903 ver. Win10 (ask it from Microsoft or Internet)
and install Mbox 2 mini driver,after that update win10 to 20h2

Thanks, pal. I wouldn't have thought about downgrading Windows to stealth install it.

I hope that somebody online finds this in a search if they still have their Mbox Mini 2. Since posting this, I sold my Mbox mini to somebody and moved on to a different mixer which I'm pretty happy with. I don't know if they ever got it to work, the planned to us it on Linux somehow and I warned them that I had not gotten it to work.

I had this problem recently, USB version, the problem is in the installer, which makes changes that crashes Windows 10 boot, the drivers itself works perfectly on latest Windows 10.
So I downloaded the driver and installed on a Windows 7 machine, isolated the drivers files at "C:\Program Files\Digidesign" copied them to windows 10, and then installed by right-clicking the *.inf files, then "Install". (the original windows way to install drivers)
So I made a zip file with instructions, to avoid using the problematic installer, the drivers are the same available at Avid's resources.
My opinion: It's a pitty, fixing the drivers' installer problems should be simple, the driver universal, and lifespan of such good product should be bigger.
Also a tip: I was able to get shorter latency by using Asio4All (requires mbox2 drivers installed)

I had this exact same problem on two different computers.

Crazy that this installer is corrupting windows files.
With this solution it works like :)
