Cheapest way to upgrade from PT8 to PT10?
I own PT8.
To buy PT10, for anyone, it's $699. As far as I can work out my only upgrade option is to upgrade to PT 9, then upgrade from PT9 to PT 10. That's going to cost me the same (or very close to) as buying PT10 outright. Is that correct? If so, there doesn't seem to be any value attached to owning a copy of pro tools before PT9. That is to say, if you have bought PT8 and want to upgrade to PT10 you are treated like a "first time" buyer. To me that's pathetic money pinching. How can a company that does that expect any brand/product loyalty? Am I missing something here? Cheers Adam |
Re: Cheapest way to upgrade from PT8 to PT10?
Stepping up one version will cost you significantly less, than it would a first time buyer. You're stepping up two versions, hence you don't get any benefit.
Where do you expect the cut off to be? Should someone coming from PT5 still get a crossgrade price? It's the same with most software, isn't it? You can upgrade from the last version to the latest for a cheaper price. Not from a 4 year old version. Look at it this way - if you buy PT10, you will most probably be able to crossgrade to PT11 for less, than it will cost first timers. |

And anyone in the market for either a cross grade, upgrade, or full liscence of PT 10 should seriously look into an mbox mini+ Pro Tools 9 bundle or Mbox+ Pro Tools 9 bundle. These should still qualify for a free upgrade to PT 10 and are cheaper than buying a full PT 10 liscence. Mini bundle goes for about $420 on Amazon and the Mbox bundle for about $600-$650. |

Mmmmmm this could go on and on.
The release of pt 10 was only a year after pt 9. I refuse to upgrade until all bugs are fixed . There was not much time to decide on upgrading then a new release. Look at all the problems people are having with pt 11 When will pt 12 be released in 3 months ????? |
