surrender license?
 

I can kind of understand Avid's need to have us surrender previous licenses as a means of control, but this poses a problem...

I normally install new software upgrades on a separate bootable drive and run them through their paces before installing them on my computer full time. This way if there's any problem or bug, I can continue working with the current version (PT9) without interrupting my work until the bug is worked out.

So the question is, can I continue to safely run PT9 with only a PT10 license on my iLok (since I'm required to surrender my PT9 license)?

I heard if you're crossgrading from 9, they give you a license that covers both. But if not, seems like the easiest solution would be to ghost your 9 drive prior to upgrading. A darn good idea in any event. Then if you must, you can revert.

Absolutely. The license on your iLok was upgraded to a bundle 9-10 version. That way it works for both v9 and v10.

The reason for surrendering your individual 9 license when upgrading to 10 is that if you owned 2 iLok devices, you could 'move' the v9 license to the other iLok. This would allow you to run Pro Tools on 2 separate computers. v9 on one, and v10 on the other. Since you purchased an upgrade, you're only allowed to run it on one computer. That's why you surrendered your v9 license. Yet, you can still run v9 if you'd like.

Good news. Have you confirmed this and been able to run your PT9 from your PT10 license? Just want to make sure, as I can't afford a moment of down-time.

I did this on my systems. Mac & PC
