Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks nightshadecrisis,
I have recorded a couple of songs a week for the last 10 years or so and cataloged them and put them away, without ever having anyone else hear them. So its nice to have a point of reference and not be so connected to the material, that I can't learn from what others think of it. Thanks for taking the time to stop by my site. Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Howdy Folks,
Just finished recording a couple of demo tunes for my band. I'm accustomed to spending considerable amounts of client money on recording their records in nice studios that for our demos we shot for a grand budget of $0 and recorded in the lounge room. We start our album late Feb. If you like independent rock head over to our site and check out the sounds page. Cheers, Marcus |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
marcusb,
Good job, I hear a Rush/Alt Jazz influence in there. Good recording quality, when all the guitars come in on the song (Death) at the peak of the song, I hear a bit of a fight between the cymbals, guitars and vox. As I listen to it, it seems the band is centered around the drummer. For me I would like to see the vocal come in quicker. I thought it was a jazz instrumental for a long time, til' the vox came in. Obviously you are not trying to go for top 40 hits and that's cool. I would like to hear the vox defined a touch more intimate or up front. Its well done, don't get me wrong, I am just splitting hairs. Especially if you are looking for a record deal, its %90 there. I understand that in the process of preparing your tunes for upload, .mp3 encodes make parts jump in or out and end up not %100 true to the original mix. My songs sounded somewhat different on the net, than the original mixes sound. Overall, very good job, just a tweek here and there and its a finished product. Just my 2/100th of a $, your miles may vary, IMHO, etc, etc... My stuff is at: http://members.dslextreme.com/users/mac911/ Regards e |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Here's one for you to give a listen to. The song was recorded in one take except for the Odubbed vocals. The band was looking for a singer and did the track for a demo. The singer on that day didn't last, so this is the only time you'll hear this ensemble. They've totally rewritten the lyrics too. So... not much need on doing much more with this. But I thought I'd jump in with a take of a decent band in a 16X16 room (no iso booths here, it's just my personal space). Let me know what you think. I've got some pics and notes about the session on my website. www.twolegsproductions.com

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hey all you DUC music Critics,
http://members.dslextreme.com/users/mac911/ I suggest listening to the songs in the order I posted them. Check out some of my songs. You will need Real Player, I think, although, I did put a quick time fall back option in the files??? Feel Free to post your thoughts on the songs, or if the server works or not ...or whatever??? Thanks. Regards e |

marcush,
Very nice, man...this is the first thing I've heard from you, and I'm glad it's good. Vocals just a tad low on 'slices', but all else sounds great to me. Cool chords and time changes, all well executed. And of course, well recorded... good job, I would say. -Roy Listening to the others next...keep em coming. -rh |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Havent posted anything here for a while. Been busy with loads of projects. Here's a live ableton live set I did a few weeks ago. It's a 75 minute MP3, of about 14 of my tracks mixed together.
Cheers, Brent. http://www.feedthemachine.org/series.html |
I am really Surprised...
At the overall sound quality of the music, many people have posted here, in this thread. Most of the music posted on the DUC, just one or two years ago was demo quality at best. Now days there has been a drastic improvement, in the sound quality of the average file posted. I might not like all the music content, however, that will always be in the ear of the beholder. Although, overall the original music I hear is much better than the demos I used to get as an A&R rep. for a major label, 10 years ago.
Its too bad, that the music market is so locked down and controlled by major corporate interests, that originality is last on the list of their interests. ...And the Internet is a growing option, for a music delivery method, but its not quite ready to break the stranglehold big business has on the industry.... one day, one day soon, I hope that the corporate greed mongers are brought to their knees by any method possible. I am sick of pre packaged garbage bombarding TV, Radio, Bill Boards, Tee Shirts, lunch boxes and tie ins, with Big Budget Films pushed on me, from the first thing in the morning, with an ad on a cereal box pushing The Lord Of the Rings; to the last thing at night with Access Hollywood on every channel, hawking everything that seems like music, for three easy payments of $29.95... Rant over. Below, a bunch of instrumental sound files (no vocals) I wrote over a several year period. I am particularly proud of "Song for Tommy" as I made all the instruments, used to record the piece, by hand... except for the HR-16 drums. I hope you enjoy some of the pieces. http://members.dslextreme.com/users/eman/ Regards e PS; I have enjoyed listening to all of the music here, thanks folks and keep em' comin' |
Re: Latest stuff...
editor,
I haven't been able to access your songs in rm format. I even tried loading an rm to MP3 converter without success. I do want to hear them, and will try and figure it out without having to load RealPlayer. thanks, Roy |
Re: Latest stuff...
realplayer always freezes on my computer, so i also try to veer away from using it...but it always winds up on my computer somehow. pesky real player! got a song im gonna put up in a few hours!

Re: Latest stuff.../Real Player Sux...
Ya, I hate Real Player, its lilke the new teach text... like a virus you can't get rid of. I changed the browser helper prefs to real player as the default player. It seems like it freezes a lot of the time, but if I wait for a minute or two it starts playing. It does take control of my CPU whenever I use it, even making me force a quit from time to time. I have QT files but my server makes you DL the files, no matter if you prepare them as streaming files, or not.... Thanks for trying.
Regards e |
Re: Latest stuff.../Real Player Sux...
editor,
I actually prefer downloading files as MP3's rather have them try to play immediately in a set player. One reason is that I keep my sound card disabled (usually) and listen back through Digi card/Quicktime or WindMediaPlayer. MP3's will play on almost anything. Maybe you could set it up as a choice between MP3 or RealPlayer. Whatever you decide...up to you. I do look forward to hearing some of your stuff though. thanks, Roy |
Re: Latest stuff.../RealPlayer
Ok I will let you know, as I have the files prepared already in QT format. All input is valuable, especially when you are old enough to not take it personal.

Re: QT, .mp3\'s ready DL & Streaming URL BELOW ;)
Hey,
a bunch of cool stuff here, Marcus cool song, very nice recording. "mouthful" is a cool song, very good quality in the recording. I'm guessing both you guys have some nice mics and pres to work with. Man, my kingdom for a real drummer. The loops are just not doing it for me any more. Roy, as to your earlier question, I don't use reason, the drums on my last tune were just the free mp3 files from reeldrums.com which I cut up a little bit. Also, editor, your stuff is very cool. "i think I'm listening to "tommy boy", it comes up as 'track07' in my mp3 player. Flipping thru the 'series six' piece, some great stuff there. Nice grooves. keep em coming, bp great sound. |
Country songs...
Roy,
I Think I read somewhere you are from TN. and, if so you might be a country music fan. I wrote a country song called wishing well. Almost all of my friends say its the best song I have ever written. Its been in several B. Movies and got me a record deal, offered through a friend of mine, who hooked me up with some country music label, I don't even remember the name now, because I usually don't write in that style. I like all styles, I just usually write in a harder Alt. rock format... anyway give it a try at the URL below. Its an .mp3 called wishing well. Thanks for checking out what I am doing, ....later on. http://members.dslextreme.com/users/eman/ Regards e |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
editor,
I finally got a chance to listen... thanks for making the files more accessible. You have a unique style indeed, and I enjoyed listening. I really do like 'Wishing Well', and didn't even consider it limited to country (I'm in Memphis by the way, not Nashville). So other than vocals, do you play guitar on these, or what is your main instrument? thanks, Roy |

editor- I listened to songs from both your posts. I like your stuff a lot.
marcus- cool songs. I agree with the vocals being a tad low. plastik- nice work! I listened to the whole thing at work... glad I did. |

Shawn,
sounds cool. that snare is intense! sounds like.....Christian Death meets Tool meets David Bowie(old stuff, im thinking the first line sung) to me. sounds cool! ev |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Roy,
Thanks for giving my stuff a listen. In answer to your question... I Started out on drums and guitar when I was a kid. Played drums professionally for several years, then switched to guitar and never turned back, I always sang, so I fronted my own bands, cover and original bands for several years. I would consider myself a guitar player above all else. I played all the instruments on the posted files and wrote, sang, produced & engineered etc, etc, ... I like to work alone, because I tend to get obsessed with the song I am working on at the time, and go 1 or 3 days gulping way too much coffee and working, until I am done with a final mix. I have written a song or two a week and recorded them, for the last ten years I am the only person who has ever heard them so its nice to get feed back from others. I know my stuff isn't for everyone, but if you don't like one I've got another, something for everyone tucked away somewhere. BTW: I am finding out that dat tape really does have a 10 year shelf life. I have a couple hundred dats each with 3 or 4 original songs on them, about a quarter of them have gone bad and will not play back without digital hash spitting all over the place. I will post a little bit more about the stuff I have done as a mastering engineer later on. Thanks for listening. Regards e |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Sorry, haven't been posting much lately, but I've been listening. There's some great stuff here at the moment.
Listening to Editor's stuff right now. Great stuff. For anyone who hasn't heard my material before, there's 4 tracks here |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Shawn
Nice track. Comments on the mix..... Everything seems to sound very distant to me. The snare makes the drums sound as though they are way off in another room. Close your eyes and visualise the sound stage. It sounds to me like everyone is very spread out on a huge stage. Generally for a "studio" recording I like to hear all the instruments really tight in together. But hey, that's just a matter of opinion. The other thing is that I can really hear the pump of the comp/limiter. For me, when you can hear the limiter working, it's working way too hard. Especially when you run a hard limiter on the master channel. One loud instrument squashes the crap out of everything. My method (but YMMV) is to have separate sub-master buses for drums, bass, guitars, keys, other instruments, and vocals. Then put a limiter on each submaster as required. Then you should just need light compression on the main master to keep it all under control. Then if you really need to squash the drums, it is not affecting everything else like your guitars really seem to be pulsating. Nice work though for a first effort. Keep it up. |
Virgin Mix
Hey fellas I just completed my first decent mix. It's been taking a while but I'm getting there. The thing is that the program manager at one of our local radio stations actually wants to put the song into rotation! You can imagine I'm nervous as hell about the mix so any feedback or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
