Thanks you guys... bp/Jason...I sent you an email.

Kevin,
All is cool...sorry things got so hectic for you, and I certainly understand. I'm hoping we're all gonna have a great Christmas. I may be taking it a little far this year myself. I went for 'a few strings' of lights yesterday, and wound up buying 18 boxes of 100 lights... ...my house is gonna look like The North Pole...

Hey,

This song "Everyone's a Fool (for Somebody)" is GREAT...
Awesome production... Great vocals, great guitars... I like everything. This could/can be a HIT here in the Bay Area...

A++

Take care,

Thanks for listening. We really like this track too. I think it's become our new "favorite".
The vocal is actually the one take scratch track. We are re-recording it (as well as a few harmonies) in a couple of days. I'll post the final mix soon.
The acoustic guitar is an Ibanez (can't tell you a model) with a MXL V67M sitting about 8 inches away from the 12 fret, and pluged into a Mindprint Envoice, then straight into the 001 box. Can't get much more simple really. There'll be some reverb and delay, but can't tell you off hand what or how much. I've found that the player generally makes the sound. You can record 10 players using the same guitar and signal chain and it will sound different each time.

The drums are programmed in Reason, and the bass was played later through a Bass V-amp Pro. The bass track also has a Blue Tubes limiter and Panning Phaser on it. Sounds a bit woofy at the moment but I'll clean that up in the final mix.

Thanks again for listening.

Paul, my email seems to be working normally, so I'm not sure what it could be. Let me know here if it persists though, and we'll figure it out.

James,
Thanks for the compliment.Anger2a just blew me away.Your Vox work very well with that tune.I hope that,s a real drummer because I can't even imagine programming what I just listened to.Great tracks. The twin guitar work is done really well also.Do you use an Eq on your master fader to color the whole mix.The clarity of your tracks with all of the cymbals and metal guitars going at once is very impressive. My cymbals sound horrible when they are playing with any distorted guitar. They seem to distort even when they dont peak the meter. Really Professional Sounding.was all of this done on a digi? Later Stu

Badperson,
I just listened to Little Dove,Someday, and People Inside.I think Little Dove and Someday have kind of a mountain music sound and feel to them.I could hear these being produced in the style of Nickel Creek or Allison Krause or something. Both Good songs.People Inside seems to have a greatful dead type of thing going there. Stu

Stut5,
Gotta say I dig the vocals ya did. Like the subtle delayed track in the background too. Did you reverse it also? I hear that a little I think... Honestly, the vocals remind me of a friends band here in Washington DC/Baltimore area, LAUGHING COLORS..

www.laughingcolors.com

Not to hype them up, but they have that type sound on the vocals too. Very cool effect. can you tell us how ya got that sound? what ya used, etc...

Thanks, and keep it up!

Intel Doc,
I noticed you are from Burke I lived there myself Back In 1972.Went to Robinson for 1 year I think it was the first year it was opened.
I just checked out your site and listened to some of your old school stuff Eggs and Toast. Id have to call that metal punk.I also checked out the band you posted Laughing colors and they are excellent.

The vocal sound was just an sm57 using the waves plugin I think it was the C4 or whichever one has the broadcast voice plugin along with one of the gates in Rverb. Then I bounced it down and pulled it into cooledit and added something to it before I reimported. Then I added the c4 again and overdrove it to give it some distortion.Thats prettty much it. Stut5,
Ya I am in Burke... Been here for about 2 years now... Easy commute to my Defense World HELL real job. The studio is my escape, but having fun with it. Maybe one day I will take it all the way? Thanks for the input on the vocal technique, I will have to try it sometime!

As for the "Eggs and Toast" Hmmmm... That was the good ole' days. I think I was 15 when i played in that band. It was fun, and we were completely influenced by Primus and Mr. Bungle. Crap now that I listen to it, but it was a good time when we played! People used to throw scrambled eggs and toast up on the stage. Kinda fnny actually!

Thanks for listening!

Re: Anger Management.

Very well done on the Vox......that was a nice addition and I like the effects on them as well.

Listening to the song tho wishes I could get my hands on the original session.... Roy does an excellent job with his part on there...but it just sounds too dry in my opinion....I could hear some more 'verb in it and some phasing/flanging and panning here and there that would just be killer, if applied just right. Just MHO o' course.....I'm a big fan of the way prince uses phasing/flanging in some of his guitar work. =)

Always good stuff to hear in here....I hope have a new song by my country artist for you guys to listen to soon.

Hey GORILLA how are you !!!

I did not want to post this because it is not in the style that is normally posted. It is classical in nature, so if it is not anyone's cup of tea, I thought I would at least forwarn you !

Otherwise, here it is !!! A piece by Mauro Giuliani.

Thanks Roy..I am the Artist and Engineer. It's only a rough so far though. I am a big believer in getting the sound right while recording as much as possible. That killer DW drum kit helped out a lot.

Great song. Love the feel. Nice clean sound.
My only critisism is that there are very few sub lows. Like you've got a high pass filter on the master that's rolling off from about 100 cycles.
My taste only. I like the sub to pump

Yea it's a Rough Mix but I did have a lowpass on it so that's weird...It's probably this room as I have moved and am not as familiar with the sound I get from this room..In fact it's a bit troubling and I need to do some tweaking. When it's in its final form, I will that the song Mastered by someone I trust along with the rest of the tunes on the CD..Thanks for the comments man!

Hey aussie Nice track.I really liked the harmony in the chorus at the end.It reminds me of harmonies from 60"s groups like Mamas and Papas or The Byrds.Really good sounding vocal tracks.Nice acoustic work also. Thanks Stu

Ok... here's a couple for ya'll to critique.

The first one is kind of a Country/Crossover Ballad. We've had quite a bit of interest in this from Nashville.

Clarence Bouse - Someday Soon

The next one is just a little Worship/Praise tune that my other artist worked on one day.

Randy Melick - May The Lord Bless You

If you like them, be sure to PM me or email ssr AT sacredsoulrecords DOT com We appreciate the feedback! =)

Hello Duc-ies,

Here are two recent productions/collaborations!
Kind of a cool story goes along with them...

A little over a year ago, I was waiting on an NYC
subway platform late at night. I heard this amazing
voice coming from the down the other end. I was absolutely
pulled by it! I discovered that it was coming from an
Orthodox Jewish woman who was singing in ancient Hebrew.
Not for performance or for money...just for joy!

Anyway...I introduced myself and told her I would love
to record her. After a bit of getting to know each
other we are full throttle into writing and recording.
Her voice still gives me goose-bumps. Tremendous fire
and passion...almost a mystical aura about it.

Here are two recent tracks:

Would love to hear your thoughts...

SSRJazz,
Both artists are very good in their genres...I do hear a slight boom on the low end of 'Someday Soon' when the 'band' comes in...either the bass or something with an acoustic guitar happening. But the mix sounds good besides that. Good job overall.

By the way, this is the actual instrumental mix (by Rogerio) of 'Anger Management'. Gracejames simply added a vocal over this existing mix, and posted it here before Rogerio got a chance to mix.(complete with guitar licks right on top of the vocals). You said something about my guitar being too 'dry' on 'Anger', but I don't agree. I thought Rogerio did a great job on the mix I've posted here.

Yeah, I can't remember exactly -when- this mix is from...it's probably the bass guitar...I'll have to go back and double check and see if I used a compressor on that track and/or tweak the settings for it. Other than that it's not really mastered other than being run thru an L2...didn't even touch that with any NR, hum, or eq/lim mastering plugins from Waves yet. One of these days I need to give it a proper mastering job. =)

Well thank you, Mr. Howell. *bows* I appreciate the feedback and the compliment! I always love the chance to sharpen and expand my engineering chops. Right now I'm working on remastering a project that a bunch of members of a discussion list (fans of a christian musician well known for his guitar playing) got together and did a few years ago. Most of the submissions were on analog cassettes. The EQ differs wildly from song to song....trying to tame it all is proving to be QUITE a challenge indeed.

'The World is Blue' is a fine piece, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Very well done, and even at over 11 minutes, it stays refreshing. What film will it be used in? Very nice job...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanks for the nice comments Roy, - means a lot to get a bit of feed-back from someone like you...

Over the last years I have written some small classic pieces but they have all ended up in the drawer and out of sight.
This time I sat out to finish the job, - and keep at it till it was finished.
The start of the whole thing was actually a brief from my agent to write a 1 minute classic track for a tv-station... But as you can see it didnt end there and the track is nothing like the "brief-track".... - I think its inspirations that just piled up over the years and finally something tricked me to work with classic music again - and happely a filmproject came up later which gave me time and oppertunety to so...
The inspiration for the track is somewhat linked to the film project, "1 year" - a danish short-film, and I´ve tried to capture the essens of it, - the changing moods and seasons of the year, and how small we really are in a larger context..

Thanks again for taking the time to listen..

CALLING OL' ROY..
I've always wanted to collaborate with you, as others seem to do around here..
I have a song, its completed, and I would love it if you would polish off the song with some of your style/work..

if you're interested, and have time, get back to me, you can email me..
the song is real basic, blues/reggae-ish.. my first attempt at anything close to that..

basically you would put a lead on the track, in between verses's or any kind of hook you could add in..
the last 2 minutes of the song is open for a full solo..

thanks
tim

Well after trying out some faulty options for music hosting on the internet - Our music is now at Zebox. Its cool cuz when people go to listen, they don't have to sign up and register like they did at mp3.com. Plus it lets you put up video and is hella customizable. Anyway, I also put up a new song there called Silence - check it out. This one features use of the Vari-Fi plugin!
