Re: New Song

All,
So I have been working some with Fastlane Records out in Oklahoma. They are sending me material to the mix room and I am doing what I can to "enhance" the material. They recently sent me a band called ANNEX (see the link on my myspace page) out of Wisconsin. A very radio worthy band with a ton of potential and a rather catchy tune. Fastlane liked the mix and mastered it out in HiDef format for me. They recently gave me the ability to post it up on my page so please take a listen and hit up the bands page as well. Looking forward to seeing where this goes. It is up on my myspace page as I cannot post the actual file sorry.

Wow...after reading the story behind this one, I'm speechless. An amazing tribute to a loved one written by her own hand. If only she could have heard it.

Thanks man, Steve is a great friend and it is always a pleaure to mix his stuff. This one meant a lot to him so I tried my best to make it sound better. I think that it turned out great for what they gave me.

Thanks for listening to it.

The latest demo (first in the player) entirely with PT LE using IK Multimedia software (Miroslav, Sampletank etc.) and some rhythm samples.

The others with PT LE and HD, with a real band mainly.

New songs, Please listen - \"Dear Mr Pres\" & \"Power Of Love\"

http://www.myspace.com/HaroldEverton

I just uploaded two new songs "Dear Mr. President" (Look At What You Did) and "Power Of Love". The songs aren't fully mixed, but are finished in the sense that they're fully recorded. Both songs will appear on my forthcoming album 'World Gone Mad". Both written, arranged, composed, recorded by yours truly.

"Look At What You Did" is all about current political strife, but can be applied to almost any situation where a mass of people are being deceived or exploited. "Power Of Love" is a fun R&B track that about uplifiting and making the best out of any situation. The party songs will be back up real soon.

I am looking for someone to mix and engineer my albums cooperatively with myself. Any criticism or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Enjoy!

Re: Something Old and Something New

Hey everyone, im brand new to pro tools, and brand new to this forum so hello there recently purchased an MBox 2 Mini, and ive been working with it the past couple of weeks. I used to use ACID rewired with reason, but the setup i found rather limiting, so i thort i better take the plunge and enter the realm of the tools so far its been really rewarding, and i like my latest song -
you can hear it here -
http://public.box.net/liamgaughan33316

if anyone would like to point out anything for improvemnt (productionwise) or something that its lacking that i have missed, that would be cool!

oh yeah quick question, ive got a core2duo 2.16ghz, 2gb computer and i have about 8 audio tracks, each with compression/eq/guitarrig 2 rtas, 4 intrsument tracks each with 2 reason channels coming in, and a audio and instrument track routed to a bus with a vocoder plugin on. my CPU usage is at about 60%, on playback. its usualy solid. but occasionaly i'll open pro tools and it just wont play, or stutters and the screen moves behind the music, along with "audio clock" errors telling me to check the samplerate. I heard the dual core fix would sort it, but it still comes back occasionaly. Anyone have any suggestions?
sorry for babbling, enjoy the song

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

New one posted on Myspace. It's titled Half My Life. It's me on everything 'cept for the really nice accent and lead guitars. That'd be my friend Gib Fenning who did a heckuva job, considering how both he and I are ham-fisted bass players by nature and proficiency. The mix is still a bit too muddy and I've got some work to do, but I'm pretty happy about how it's turning out.

Comments welcome.

Need some help with this mix

Hi DUC,
Below is a link to a project I've been working on for some time now. I'm kind of disappointed with the quality of the final mix I'm getting, and am hoping somebody can give me some different strategies to pursue.

The recording is of the first movement of a piece called "Electric Counterpoint" by the American composer Stev Reich. It was written for 10 guitar parts (+,-) and two electric bass parts. The first movement is in two sections- the first is an intro (2 minutes) of pulsing chords, and the second is about 5 minutes of an evolving texture comprised of canons and small, shifting patterns. In live performance, there is a "live" guitar part that is played with a "tape" part of the rest of the ensemble (or CD, whatever...)

The problem with my mix (as I hear it) is this: It's too boxy and kind of stifled sounding. I would really like to create some more space within the mix so that the solo part, which runs up the middle pretty much the whole time, has a little bit more room. Plus, i would like to have each part be a little more defined.

Logistically, this turned out to be pretty difficult to do. Getting 10 electric guitar parts, all written within the span of a 12th, to sit together well in a mix and retain their own space is really difficult- at least for me. I can't even begin to tell you all the things I tried, but in the end I ended up busssing the guitars 1-4 to a stem, and guitars 5-8 to a seperate stem. Guitars 9 and 10 had their own sum, as do the basses. I compressed the first two stems somewhat heavily (5:1) and EQ'd each as I saw fit. i also EQ'd individual channels as necessary, but it seems like no matter what I do, or how much I cut (which is A LOT) the low mid build up becomes insufferable and ultimately this is what's killing a lof of the space I would like- I think.

I recorded it using my Strat through a Fender Twin with a very smll amount of overdrive. I ran a direct line into my Summit 2ba- 221, and used a Royer 121 on the amp through one channel of a Focusrite ISA-428. Both inputs went through an Apogee Rosetta 200 and then into ProTools. I ended up using about a 10%-90% (direct to mic'd) mix ratio on each part...

Anyway, if anyone has any constructive advice I would really appreciate it. Sometimes I think i may need to start from scratch, but it was so much work to make this... Really, kind of insane I would hate to have to do this again

http://silvertone.princeton.edu/~aml...unterpoint.mp3

Thanks,
Andrew

Here\'s a love song to a Volkswagen

Here's a tune my pal wrote, titled Superbeetle. It's getting a lot of comments back from those who have heard it. I play guitar and bass, Mark plays drums, sings, and sequenced.

It's a catchy tune, and a MAN's song!!

The song Gabriella is my first project in pro tools - it took 2 days from start to finish. This is also after having the system ( mbox2 factory)for only 4 days. I'm amazed at how pro tools is soooooo user friendly after you get past the initial "What the hell?" phase!

Marlee,
Wecome to the mix realm first off. I see where you are going with the mix and the solo guitar player thing. I think that you have the guitar u about 3 to 5db too much. Let it set in with the rest of the music. It sounds more like a guitar in your face with a song in the back. I am a guitar player myself and used to have that "PUT THE GUITARS IN YOUR FACE" syndrome too. Could use a different reverb too. Something with a little more depth to it. I think that if you set it back more it will let the rest of the music gel better. Add a slight delay and throw it to each side with a buss but make it VERY, VERY subtle. That will throw it more.

Good start.

Doc

marllee 06-05-2007 10:18 AM

Re: Here\'s a love song to a Volkswagen

Thanks Doc, I'm gonna give that a try and yeah I agree about the guitar being too loud. My initial mix had a better balance but I'm just learning how the mixes translate into the "real world".

again thank you for the kind words,

Marllee
