Re: Re-vamped somewhat
Your instrumental part is killer............
I my opinion the vocal line with the instrumental is not synergistic. The vocal line/melody should take the piece to the next level and to such a point that the instrumental piece sounds incomplete or naked without the vocal line/melody. The instrumental is much stronger and melodic... Nick |

Re: Scarlet Thread
All,
Tracked a 1 take session this weekend as a pre-pro thing. Turned out pretty tight and I think that we are going to run with it as a RAW promo. Check it out. I have it up on my MySpace. The first 4 songs. Baba G' Nush. Song 1, Song 2, Song 3, Song 4. Very ole Chili Peppers like meets Mike Patton like vocals. Really enjoyed the session. It was quick and RAW. Enjoy. Yogev....sorry it took me a while to listen...(pretty busy lately)...I really like her voice...it bears a very slight resemblence to Norah Jones(whose voice I love). Nice job on the mixes...nice touches here and there like the violin in the first song. 'Sorry' is also nice...I like what it becomes toward the end...cool song(s). Good job. Best of luck with it. -Roy |

Andy....really good song and writing...some slight timing issues here and there(though they're kind of cool actually). The mix could be better, IMO. There is an overall 'muffle' to it for some reason I can't quite pinpoint in one listen...the instruments seem too separated. I would concentrate on gettin a good core rhythm bed mix first(bass, drums, main guitar), and then add the rest to it. But that said, really good song and great feel. I hope what I've said helps. Good job so far. -Roy |

Hey Roy, Thanks a WHOLE LOT man cuz I am really trying my best with everything. And thanks for the input I will try it out. And when I get the girls to lay the vocals down I will post it up. But man you have no idea how much I appreciate you man. Take Care |
Trakz, Heđin, IntelDoc
Trakz - there's some inspired rhyming in StreetLife! (...European...VSOPing...). What I DON'T like is all the vocal doubling (harmonizer?). It makes the whole song sound chorusy and inauthentic. I know it's a rough cut. It's a really good song. Lefty 2's sign-off is a little medical for me...I have no problem with the sentiment, but there's got to be another way to say it...filthy is fine...icky is, well, icky. [BREAK] Nah, I just listened to it again...it's good to go.
Heđin - you guys sound really tight. Everything's a wee bit muddy to me, though. I'd like to hear the vocals a little better, too. IntelDoc - my opinion, the vocalist's problem on Body Bags isn't his pitch, it's that he's completely unconnected to the lyrics. Tell him to stop trying to sound angry and overwrought and try to actually get angry and overwrought. And if he can't connect to those lyrics, rewrite them. The band sounds awesome. He's the weak link. Alright. Feeling opinionated today. Take it with a grain of salt...I'm a helicopter pilot, and I can't hear a f-cking thing. Here is something brand new. Don't listen to it directly after GoodFellahz, or it will sound like lovesick suburban schmaltz. Oh f-ck, that's what it is. Hey, you gotta be yourself. Ghost If anyone has suggestions for a better title, I'm all ears. Roy, replace my solo. Thanks. |
Flashing Bones
In case this makes any sense.....
Put the basic layers of the song together, the whole thing's gotta be tightened together with a melodyline or maybe some audio-edits. Thinking of something. Any comments welcome, especially regarding the mix. Kudo's all, Walther. |

Pretty relaxing song, Ghost. Just in the beginning, the intro, the overall volume seems a bit too low. Just the guitar that plays. When the song really sets in, it's allright. My 2 cts. Walther. |

Thanks for the comments. It was fun tracking them. Tey are back in te studio when I get back from Colorado. Good times.... Doc |
Re: Scarlet Thread
Made some edits to pansettings and filtersweeps. All must be a bit clearer now, further I'll stop micromanaging. Title set now.
Grooving Bones Best regards, Walther. Oh and I replaced the Redrum with a stereo wavefile that I recorded from an Alesis D4 drumkit for this song. |
Re: Scarlet Thread
Hi all,
Latest Frozenbones tune called "Devil's Maze part I" At the moment we are trying to upgrade my buddy vocal setup. He is using Mbox and goes between Shure58 and NT-1. Money is a issue here about $500.00 for pre and maybe close to the same amount for a mic. I suggested a RPN for pre but not to sure what mic to go with. I am leaning towards AT4050 or Blue BabyBottle for his tone of his voice. Any input would cool! Thank all! Hope you enjoy. Devil's Maze part I |
Re: Hey Dave C, the Tard here...
Yooooooooooo, Roy! How are ya, man? Been a long time. I've been out of the loop for quite awhile, what with young kids, hard drive crashes, self-employment, and geriatric hampsters. But I'm trying to make a comeback. I did finish my CD and would like to send you another song from it. Only problem is, I don't have a website, or the wherewithall at this time to get one. Could I just email you the song, and you could post it, or what do you think? It's 7 minutes long.
The CD has been a resounding success, and has increased my fan base by er, ah, tens. I've also been asked to do a three month tour with the Rolling Stones! Would you believe it? A three month tour with the Rolling Stones! |
Re: Hey Dave C, the Tard here...
Hi Nippamuk...very good to hear from you... ...absolutely, email me the song and I'll be glad to post it.(anxious to hear it too.) So, the hamsters are still chugging along, huh?.......hehe

Re: New Client...
Quote:
On the drums: 1) more thwack from the kick, EQ-wise. After, hit it with a limiter to even it out, and mix it in louder. 2) Snare sounds real good. 3) Floor tom's a touch too loud during the verses, and maybe needs more EQ (try scooping around 400Hz, and a gentle, narrow boost around 100Hz, as well as some light compression). Also, a roomier vibe on the drums during the verses would be appropriate. If you tracked any room mics, mix em in more during this part. On the vocals: 1) Get rid of most of the reverb on the lead vocal during the verse. 2) It sounds like you may have de-essed the vocals too much. I can barely hear the consonants, but it might just be the singer's lack of anunciation. If the vocal's reverb doesn't have any pre-delay, try about 20 msec to bring back the clarity to the lead vocal. 4) Pan the backup vocals out to the sides a bit more. 5) If you haven't already, sneak in a heavily compressed vocal track underneath the original during the chorus, for added punch. On the song: 1) Turn the rhythm guitars down a bit during the verse and bridge. 2) Maybe pan the center guitar off to one side during the bridge (it's fighting for space with the vocals), and maybe a flange or phaser or filter or something weird on it (or the vocals, or both), just to set the bridge apart from the rest of the song. Keep it up! Naagzh |

Nice stuff, man teh guitars really fill out the entire spectrum I really like the width you are getting. Good work my friend. I'd say the vox need a touch more space/verb/delay but that's a preference thing. Thanks |
Re: Tell me what you think
"MusicalWonder,
Really nice chords...sounds like an excellent bed for vocals, and I'de like to hear when it's done. " Agreed. bouncy, yet it flowed and it's pretty uplifting. I definately see vocals sitting in there well. Check out: www.myspace.com/andystunes for my 2 new recordings. Thanks for any input. Always trying to improve my mixes. |

Joz,
Really nice sounding stuff.. is that mastered? Heres my first tune done on PT.. "Bozack" http://www.clmusic.net/bozackf2.mp3 |
Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!
honest opinion from someone who does this for a living? Way too dark, vocals are burried and hard to understand. I would try to roll off a lot of the gtrs low end to make room for the bass. I didn't really get too far into the mixes as I was called away, but I would start there, hope this helps...

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!
Here's a song about about a guy dying of cancer who pleads with his doctor for a way out. Much of the instrumentation is a single track of a 12 string run through guitar rig in four or five different watys. The intro has the sound of a howling wolf. The lead instrument is a mandolin.
