Arturia launches SQ 80 synth
Arturia just launched their emulation of the Ensoniq SQ80 synth from the 1980's. In traditional Arturia fashion they added a bunch of things the hardware didn't have but they supposedly also stay true to the sound. They didn't clean up anything and it truly sounds true to it's 8 bit roots. Whether that's good or bad is up to the end user.
As old as I am I never had or played the original so can't comment on the sound. Downloaded the demo and have been playing with it. Do NOT depend on what you hear in YouTube vids as you'll never hear the grit this thing has. I was all set to jump on this but after playing around with it it's just not my cup of tea. The demo is good for 20 minutes at a time. To tell the truth for me it sounds like a low-rent Pigments and doesn't have the guts Pigments has. The gui looks a lot like Pigments as well. Intro price for me as I own every other piece of s/w Arturia puts out is $49.95 which includes two expansion libraries for it. At this writing it's a no sale for me. https://www.arturia.com/products/ana...q80-v/overview |

Well, one man's treasure is another man's trash:-) I always viewed Ensoniq as the budget alternative for folks that couldn't afford an Oberheim OBX-a, Prophet 5 or Emulator II:o

Nice, especially the full upgrade, if you budget for this.
