ProTools Ultimate | Big Sur | Upgrade options

We are running Pro Tools Ultimate with High Sierra (2018). Has been pretty stable. We are looking to upgrade to Big Sur and the earlier version does not work anymore. Our support also expired (did not renew) earlier to download any software updates.

Questions:
1. Can we renew our subscription now so we can download 2021.3 version for Big Sur? We want to use a perpetual license as before.

2. Avid is showing us upgrade options "crossgrade" with a subscription.

Please help what's the best option.
Thanks.

I'll repost this from another thread that might answer your question.

To clarify, to resume your perpetual license, you need to reinstate your perpetual license (which is no longer available from Avid but some retail places may still have existing reinstatements available) and then annually purchase the update plan and support plan (combined and can not be purchase separately).

It you switch to the subscription plan, you will forfeit your current perpetual license and must pay monthly or annually for the subscription to use Protools. If you stop paying, you will not be able to use Protools at all (This is different than the perpetual license where you can continue to use Protools, but only up to that version as you've found out). However, you can restart your subscription at any time after stopping without a higher reinstatement fee.

I hope that clears things up a bit rather than confusing things. Either way, you need to go one way of the other (unless you go back to a previous OS that is compatible with your current perpetual license of Protools and the plugins that are compatible with that). Good luck.

Third option to go with the two above: purchase a new perpetual license at full cost - which will give you a year of Upgrades & Updates. So:

1) Find a Reinstatement for your Perpetual License

2) Cross Grade to a Subscription and give up your Perpetual License

3) Purchase a new Perpetual License

Thank you so much. Very helpful info. Will try to reinstate it if I find a reseller. Please let me know if you know of anyone who can provide the support plan or buy a new perpetual license with support. Many thanks.

OP

Another (almost the same cost option) is to purchase a Windows 10 Machine and run your older perpetual license there. Older versions of PT run just fine in the newest Windows 10 releases - at least to 2019.x. Ultimate is not inexpensive to upgrade, so if you have Windows versions of all your plugins...

I know, it's not a Mac. But it is an option.

YMMV
