Sounds great, Jerome... good song. I love where the harp comes in, and the acc slide stuff, too.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Well being quite a newbie at the 001, I just finished my first 2 projects with the 001, which are really the first projects I've ever recorded. So if some of you experienced mixers could take 10 secondes and listen and let me know where I'm going right and where I'm going wrong, I would appreciate it very much.

The first song is "Speechless" by Buck Enterprises (indie rock/punk with horns)

The second song is "Song 3" by The Tourist (instrumental indie/art rock)

Tracks now at:
http://www.angelfire.com/indie/songs1

PS. These were pretty much done with all stock 001 converters/pres. I got a Focusrite Voicemaster that the vox were done through.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

hey all, i have been working on a live album for the last few months. my band recorded it 2 years ago, and i finally got the tapes in june. never having done a live album, i didnt think it would be as tough as it is. lots of bleed in the mics (we recorded a show in a local bar). and not the best recording overall (the bass was overly compressed on the way to tape). but the mixes seem to be coming along quite well, with a lot of effort and editing. i ended up having to sound replace the kik drum, and am in the process of replaying the snare hits, because sound replacer cant get the nuances of the drummer's playing. please take a listen and tell me what y'all think could improve the mixes. they are here http://www.polarisconcepts.com/jivebrown/ thanks everyone. Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

JiveBrown - the mix is getting there and the band sounds great. I like the harmonies. I would let the rhythm section come up further in the mix - bass and drums are getting a little lost behind the guitars and vocals. Nice work.

Pedrohead - I can't get directly to your mixes - Angelfire won't allow it.

Jerome - I'm not a big listener of your kind of music, but the Which Way Blues is a fun tune. Nice slide guitar and harmonica work.

Roy - I finally got a chance to listen to Burn, which absolutely kicks ass. I'll never figure out how you get your guitar to talk like that. That lick that comes in at 2:21 blows me away. I'm air-guitaring my way around the room and my family is wondering whether to have me committed.

Rational Punk/Dave,
Well sheesh... I finally caught 'Wings of Steel', and man, it really is impressive. From the beautiful and well recorded acoustic guitar all the way through, the clarity of every sound involved is superb. I could pick out any instrument, or vocal part, and listen to it alone if I choose. On top of that, you are a very gifted writer, singer, and musician.
Excellent work, in my opinion...

I'm gonna listen to pedrohead and jivebrown next, and lookin forward to it...

I have a few songs that I did recently on www.platypusj.com if anyone would like to take a listen and review. Let It Go is the main one, but either of the other two would be great as well. Thanks

Download R&B audio at www.nukmusic.com
Also check on mp3.com and search for artists in your home town, most of the time you will find good musicians you can network with.

Rational....

Your signature says it all. Very intricate arrangements, and serious chops. Cool.

For those who are into progressive rock, you gotta check out Rational Punk's stuff.

By the way, I'd like to add a quick note and remind everyone on this board that you don't need to consider yourself an expert mixer or music producer to listen and provide your comments on the stuff that's posted.

I say this because the ratio of people who post music for us to hear, vs. those who listen and comment on it is not always where it should be. Everybody wants to have their music heard, and everyone deserves feedback, but feedback is nobody's *job* and it can't be assumed that a few regulars are going to handle it.

As a general courtesy, if you're posting your music here, you should be listening and commenting on the music of your PT brothers and sisters also. Most of us are pretty good about it, but there are a select few who almost never comment on other people's stuff, and then show some attitude when nobody comments on theirs!

Bring on some more music, people.

Ok all, I have a new one up. Its called "Hold you in my arms."

I have this song up on a TONOS server, so there are pros and cons. The pros, is there is no need to enter your information(like mp3.com), the bad news is that the songs are in streaming realmedia format. So, please, if you have time, check the song out. The string sections came out splendid(though not as cleary heard on streaming media).

Thanks again.

Agenda: Entropy @ TONOS

--Rational Punk, your stuff sounds really cool. I can honestly say I have never heard some stuff as intricately laid out like that. Some of it reminded me a bit of earlier Boingo. you listen to them at all? Great stuff though. Keep up the good work!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Frank - I listened to the track "It's Your Attitude" and I can't help but think that it's a not-so-good attempt at the song "Smooth" by Santana. The vocals sound very bland and monotonous...I hate to sound so negative, but you did leave a link to check it out.

Captain_Pants 09-28-2002 11:58 PM

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Frank, I just checked out a couple of your songs.
They take me back to the 80's man. Thats great. My favorite time period.

I especially liked "Here Tonite"

What type of synths do you use?
Keep up the good work!

Also enjoyed "My last day" and the instrument rush that happens towards the middle/end.

Hi FrankLP,
Thanks for posting some of your stuff for us. I liked 'Now I Know What Love Is' and 'Green Land' the most of what I heard. I thought you did a good job on the productions. Keep on creating, and post back anytime.

Thanks, Roy

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hey guys thanks for all the feedback.
coltraneHL : hey no worries man. Any kind of reaction/comment is welcome! Honestly wasn't goin' for the Santana thing, but I can see how the percussion and lead-in can draw that conclusion. FYI - that started as an experiment, and was my first recording done with Pro Tools.
Captain_Pants: yeah I spent all of the 80's traveling and doing a Vegas-type variety gig. "Here Tonight" was cooked with those ingredients, so it does have that flavor. Most of what you hear on that track is Proteus stuff with a Mirage sample for the solo.
Roy: thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate the fact that you took a listen and took the time to comment. Thanks again.

pedrohead, sweet mixes. You've got a good ear.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

J Old School - Which Way Blues: I lov ethe sound of the acoustic guitar and the banjo. nicely blended. Harmonica, nice sound...I find it hard to not get a very harsh sound with a harmonica, so nicely done. Are the vocals doubled or is that a delay?

Pedrohead - song 3: great intro and a nice mix! I find the whole song to be very Cure-ish sounding (which is a good thing to me )

JiveBrown - Deliver Me: I really like this one! It sounds sort of Peter Gabriel-ish ... inspirational and uplifting sound. I could hear everything sitting nicely in the mix. You get a nice vocal sound. I also listened to Going, Going, Gone and Sweetwater, both of which I thought had a great mix. I like the roto on the guitars in sweetwater, as well as the mix of male and female vocals. Were you playing on these recordings? pretty kick butt (especially for live)

For all you David Bowie Fans...

I've posted a version of Bowie's "A Space Oddity" that I recorded a few years ago. It's on the MP3 section of my website - HERE

It was recorded on Cubase at my old guitarist's studio.

I've also posted the Version of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" I recorded last year (featuring DUC member Murph16 on keys).

And of course there are bunch of tunes from my latest project and solo CD, as well as "Burn Down", the track that was used for Peter & Roy's DUC Shootout.

Give em' a spin and let me know what you think!

Thanks!

Nice Job Burnzone, did you do everything yourself?
I would have faded the end for the album edit and shortend the ending solo voices up a bit for the radio edit.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Burnzone,
Great song, man... I really, really like the vocals. I cued it up, and was painting something in another room, while it replayed 3 times. Your voice reminds me of the great Danny Wilson, who did 'Mary's Prayer'. Believe me, the comparison is meant to be a compliment, because to me he's a great singer. You are too.
But, just wanted to tell you....great job, IMHO.

~Roy

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hi all and thanks for listening! I wrote the song and did all the music on my LE system. I sure wish it were me singing, but it's not. The vocals are all the product of Grant Stott. An exceptional musical talent up here in the northwest. He's been kind enough to give me lots of pointers and keep me going in the right direction. The vocals were recorded on a TDM system in Grant's studio during one all 10pm to 6am session! Boy was my wife mad! LOL

I agree the the ending should be shorter for radio.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Jared,

There is a harmony vocal. The vocals and some of the instruments are bussed to an aux track with a short delay - slap type. The harp has a q10 eq with the am radio preset. The harp was recorded with a 57 through a bluetube pre (slightly overdriven) and some compression. I've recorded clean harp in the past for prettier ballads, but this song called for some grit.

Thanks,
J

For now here is the 2nd song i've ever recorded.

I used:
PIV 2.0 blah, blah
esp mh 300 - all guitars
fender jazz precision bass
akg d2300 mic (100 bux with a boom stand and 20' cable!)
dbx pro vocal strip
line 6 pod pro (for guitars and bass)
roland xp-30(drums)
Event tria monitors
Pt 5.3.1

Thats it, nothing fancy, since I'm in college and im broke
Let me know what you think, mostly on mastering, sound quality, etc..
If you like the song, you can tell me that too, if not, take it easy on me.

Everything is performed/written by me.
Big Wheat (right-click, save as)

Does anyone know a free site I can host a few mp3's. I've been using yahoo, it gives you 15 megs, but you can't upload any file bigger than 5 megs... Most of my songs arebigger than 5 so i cant put them there, even though it doesnt exceed the limit. mp3.com seems like what people are using, but i cant figure out to upload songs there unless it is on a cd. any suggestions, I want to get some songs of mine out there for comments...

MetalTim: Your song doesn't have to be on a CD to upload into MP3.com. Just register as an artist and follow the instructions in the artist area. They will take days, if not weeks, to preview the song and allow it up on the site, tho.

Captain_Pants 10-07-2002 01:56 PM

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Well, I dont know how important your timing of song distribution is or not, but I registered for premium service, and on average, it takes about 5 hours to get my songs up on MP3.com if I upload them in the morning..

Thanks, I saw the artist section down on the left. I didnt see that the first time.
