Win 10 Build versions

Hi all,

I suspect any PT version that is qualified for Win10 will work on any Win 10 build version. As long as Win likes the audio interface drivers & iLok, Pro Tools will work. Case in point, according to this https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...5-Release-Info ProTools 2020.5 is fully qualified on Win 10 1909. However, I'm running it on 21H1 ---> no issues & stable. It seems build versions (which are mostly security updates i.e. it's still Win10) do not break ProTools. True/false? Thanks!

Re: Win 10 Build versions

I only had one problem with a W10 update, back in, IIRC, July 2019. The update caused crackling in audio being recorded. I ran LatencyMon, found the culprit and searched online. Sure enough, lots of people complaining. Rolled back, all good again, and not long after a new update solved the issue. Other than that incident - and the odd time an update defaults some optimizations - updates have been fine.

That said, I use Group Policy Editor (W10 Pro only, not in Home) to turn off automatic updates and always have a backup image I can restore.

And yes, interface drivers can be critical too, one reason I went RME.

Re: Win 10 Build versions

For me, I have never been able to kill automatic updates(despite tons of advice and direction:confused:), but none of them have caused any serious problems. The only thing that happened once or twice was a couple of system tweaks were changed back. Specifically, USB Power Management was turned back on twice and Sound Properties went back to my interface once.

I do have 2 spare system drives with previous versions that I can swap in, and I can easily pull the USB wifi dongle to prevent those from being updated(although neither have given me any messages asking to be updated anyway, which makes me wonder if the auto-update gets ignored if there is more than 1 version difference):o

I've had minor issues with updates, but managed to solve them within a few minutes. Never has stopped work.

Will try it. Thanks:D(so much easier than the Group Policy route which didn't work).
