Pro Tools 9 + Command 8 or other?
 

I'm still occasionally using Pro Tools 9 on location (MBP; OS10.6.8) and I'm thinking about picking up a fairly cheap Command 8 controller. I'm sure that the Command 8 works fine under PT9, but am wondering whether there is anything else to consider. I assume that most recent controllers will not work with PT9. If anyone happens to have knowledge of this, I would be grateful to know.

Indeed, most of the crop of newer controllers aren't going to work. Command 8 is actually quite a good little surface. If you don't need 8 faders, the original Presonus Faderport is quite decent(still using mine on PT2021.12:D). Other option that MIGHT work(if you can get the proper drivers) would be the old Mackie controllers, but anything that has a HUI mode may also work(again, subject to a compatible driver). All things considered, I would still go for the Command 8 if you need all its function, or the old Faderport for its small size(with good functionality).

Thank you for your helpful reply. I think it sounds risky to buy and try anything more recent, so I'll give the Command 8 a go.
