SPAN is a real-time “fast Fourier transform” audio spectrum analyzer AU, AAX and VST plugin for professional music and audio production applications. For the most part it was derived from Voxengo GlissEQ dynamic parametric equalizer and reproduces its spectrum analysis functionality.

SPAN provides you with a very flexible “mode” system which you can use to setup your spectrum analyzer preferences. You may specify Fourier block size in samples, FFT window overlap percentage, spectrum's visual slope. Beside that you can choose to display secondary spectrum of a desired type (e.g. real-time maximum, all-time maximum). Spectrum can be smoothed out visually for an easier examination.

SPAN supports multi-channel analysis and can be set to display spectrums from two different channels or channel groups at the same time. Spectrum's color can be chosen to taste.

SPAN also features output level metering with adjustable ballistics and integration time, K-system metering (including calibration K-system metering). SPAN displays level metering statistics, headroom estimation and clipping detection. Correlation metering is available as well.

Sounds good. Surprising Voxengo still recommends using the fxpansion vst-RTAS wrapper considering fxpansion hasn't had that available for years.

I'm well versed in using an FFT analyzer such as Smaart or SIM to analyze the phase and EQ of a live PA system in a room.

How do you use this as a plugin and what benefit does it have in the mixing process?

They probably haven't updated their website yet; but this is what they have mentioned in their tweet of some ten days ago (regarding their entire line of plugins, I guess):

In PTHD9.0.6

Zooming Span all the way in dB, analyzing ProTools Pink Noise Signal generator, I could see aliasing/phase cancelation ripples @96KHz...
But...
The free VST MDA Pink Noise TestTone Generator... Was flawless.
Wrapped with FXPansion RTAS adapter.

PT signal generator ripple bug/problem was the same in Windows & OSX.

We have updated our plugin development tools to include AAX64 plugin support. Future plugin updates will be compatible with ProTools 12+

would it be a stretch to think they'd also update Pristine Space to aax64 and OSX? I miss that ir reverb from my old Windows/Sonar days.

had my first -error in ProTools HD12.3.1 since i installed SPAN... W7x64sp1

but ProTools continued to work OK, just a windows pop-up, clicked OK, and everything normal again.

Hello, I am struggling to get Pro Tools First to find Voxengo Span. I was hoping it would be compatible - does anyone know if it isn't? I know PT should be version 12+

PT First can only use it's own plugins or those purchased through Avid store.
