What are some examples of a guitar synth being used to good effect? The only one I know of (actually i'm not sure it was a guitar synth, but I think it was) is Bill Frisell on Marc Johnson's Bass Desires.

Know of any others?

Our own English Jim of this very Digi DUC did a CD recently of Allan Holdsworth playing the SynthAx. It's entitled 'Flat Tire' and is certainly worth a listen if you're looking for music in this area. I enjoyed it.

Cheers,

P.S. - E.J. - Maybe you could put a couple of short clips on the web site for folks to get a taste of this tasty CD?

Know of any others?<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Pat Metheny is the master at finding original sound with a guitar synth. Check out Song for Bilbao (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/clipserve/B000003N8I001003/104-8182603-1868732) From the Album Tales from the Hudson.

Steve Morse of The Dixie Dregs (great band) was probably the best synth guitarist I ever heard. Here's a site with a couple of samples of his stuff:

Almost any King Crimson record since "Discipline" has Roland guitar synth all over it. Likewise alot of the synth effects on Police records are Andy Summers thru the Roland guitar synths. (am I showing my age?)

Ultraslide, you may be older than me, but I think good music doesn't relates to age: I definitely love King Crimson and expecially their latest ('80) part of discography; a pretty guitar-synth intense record from King Crimson is "Thrak", which features both Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew on guitar and guitar synth, check it out, plus all of the Fripp solo productions (Frippertronics and Soundscapes in particular) are killer examples of how to produce music with electronics. Also lots of records from Pat Metheny (like Offramp) and Steve Morse in his records with Dregs and Steve Morse Band, a few things can be heard on Living Colour's records too (Stain).

Good Listening.
