Track playback while recording

I imported a drum track from EZ Drummer 2 to a stereo instrument track.
I want to record a piano track thru XPand2 AND listen to the drum track, simultaneously.
When I arm my piano track and commence recording the drum track cannot be heard.
I thought I could listen to tracks already recorded while recording and monitoring a new track in PT 12.7.1
What am I doing wrong?

Typically, the thing to do is to post the fix so others can benefit from your knowledge, sometimes months or years down the road in searches.
