Hey, I was wondering if anybody else has been having this problem?

What happens is I'll be editing or mixing in Pro Tools, and then I'll get an error message about increasing the buffer size. However, for some reason that is entirely beyond me, my sound cuts out. Pro Tools will still be fully functioning, I can still see the levels change in the meters, and it will still be running as smooth as ever, but I don't get any actual sound coming out from my monitors. I'm not sure if the audio engine is crashing or if perhaps its a malfunction with my interface (I don't have any meters on my interface so I cant really tell if the audio is making its way to it or not), it is really becoming frustrating. Interesting enough, as soon as this happens, I cant get sound from my iMac at all (Firefox, Chrome, Logic, etc.) unless I restart my computer. This can really put a damper on a session considering I have to then get up and shut off each monitor before I restart the computer to avoid any loud pops when shutting down.

Has anybody else experienced this? Does anybody have any advice on how to solve the problem?

My current setup is:
iMac 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, OSX 10.5
Pro Tools M-Powered 8.0.3
M-Audio Fast Track Pro
LaCie 1 TB Hard Disk external Hard Drive
KRK Rokit Monitors and Sub
