Delay in Headphones....

I'm running PT8 MPowered on a Quad Core Intel MacPro with 6G RAM, 4 1T HD's... I should have plenty of power to do just voiceovers. But when I activate a voice track, there's a delay in my headphones. Anyone know what's causing this, And how I eliminate it? it's not there during playback, only live monitoring. It almost sounds like a cross between a slap delay and a flanging effect... please help!

The delay is from the buffer setting. What interface do you have? I'd suggest you use the built-in mixer of the interface (software) when you're tracking as it will feed your cans DIRECTLY from the mic. This means you must MUTE the output of ProTools or you'll get double returns.
