my new i5.. 24 hours in.. help needed!

So an update after having my new i5 for 24 hours..
PT freezes when loading, and now other programs - especially system preferences - gets the beach ball of death rolling.

It came with 10.6.2 installed and I've tried upgrading .3 and that didnt help, have gone back to .2

Have upgraded to 8.0.3, to no avail. Also tried many of the listed things such as repair disk permissions and toggling blue tooth etc, still with the same problems.

Should I be doing something with partitioning the HD for system and PT? Im going to get an external disk with Oxford etc etc but surely I should be able to at least open everything up for now.

Is there any other list of things to check through to help?

Have you tried to disable the network ?
Have you tried removing all plugins to the unused plugins folder ?

Yeah I tried turning Airport off.. haven't tried removing the plugins yet, will do that when I get home. But surely that shouldn't cause the rest of the computer's programs to freeze?

You are right. But does the other programs freez even if you don't start ProTools after a reboot ?

It might be a shot in the dark but you could try to reset PRAM and NVRAM

Thanks for the suggestions.. have tried moving all the plugins, have also reset the PRAM and NVRAM a couple of times..
When I have the mbox mini unplugged and restart the computer runs fine.. nothing freezes.. as soon as I plug it back in, even WITHOUT starting Pro Tools, system prefs etc goes back to freezing...

Anymore suggestions pleeease?? So frustrating having a new toy and not being able to use it!!:(

Ok so after a clean uninstall and reinstall I can now (with airport and blue tooth off) successfully load a session and play around for awhile... however still when I try and load up other programs (syst prefs etc) they freeze.

My Mbox mini is playing music through iTunes fine, however I can't get PT to register my guitar input, have tried both inputs.. anything I'm missing?

I guess you have selected the correct input channel in your track in ProTools ?
