Hi all

I have an RME FF400. I was thinking of buying the M-Audio Profire 2626 to use as an ADAT with my RME (So I can have 16 channels in and out). If I am using the Profire as an ADAT will I be able to run Pro Tools 8 M-Powered?

Cheers

Yes
Connecting the RME via ADAT to the 2626 which is connected you the Mac you can use PT.

Hi Mindnoise

So with the 2626 connected via ADAT will I be able to use the RME as the main interface with the 2626 just providing extra channels if I need them?

Do you know if I will be able record in using the RME, or will I only be able to use the 2626 inputs?

Cheers

You will be able to record with the RME as the profire's AD conversion process will get the data into PT 8. I've done this before on a yamaha digital desk.

You will have to use the 2626 as the main interface. And use the RME - ADAT into the 2626 to get your other channels.

Hmm... So the AD coversion will be done through the Profire rather than the RME?
Does that mean I will need to use the M-Audio software to route things or will I be able to use the RME's, which to my understanding (and having used the Firewire 410) is better than M-Audio's?

No the RME will do the conversion. ADAT is a digital protocol.

Hook up the 2626 to your computer via FireWire.
Then connect the RME to the 2626 via ADAT.

By selecting the corresponding inputs in the PT interface you can record
'directly' from the RME.
I guess named something like ADAT 1-16.

Check the correct setting of the 2626 SoftMixer in the M-Audio software
and the I/O setting in PT.

Mindnoise, thanks a lot for your info you have been a great help!

Will I be able to use the RME outputs too as my main output do you know? I am guessing I will be able to, I will just need to do some internal routing.

I suppose the "awkward" part will be when I want to use Logic I will want to reverse the ADAT so the RME Firewire is going into my Macbook with the Profire connected as ADAT to the RME, but when I want Pro-Tools I will need to switch these around?

glad to help.

yes you can use the RME as main outputs, too.

But one question I stumbled across:

I was assuming the RME (you did not say which model)
has a stand alone mode aka must not be connected to the Mac via FireWire.
This is the only issue I see.

When you take a look at my signiture you see I am using a Focusrite Saffire
as main I/O and have the M-Audio Transit connect via digital Connections, so the Saffire does all the ADDA conversion.

But the Saffire is only working when it is connected to the Mac via FireWire,
as it has no Standalone Mode.

best.

I believe my RME has no stand alone mode....

So I will have to have the Profire as they ADAT.

Macbook - Firewire to RME - ADAT to Profire

Will these set up allow me to use M-Powered?

unfortunatly no. IN order to use m-powered you will have to use the profire as the firewire interface.
Edit. From what I read here (http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_fireface_400.php) it can be used in standalone mode.
