Ok. I am doing something stupid probably.
I open a session on Pro Tools. Make a new audio track.
I have my Fasttrack pro interface on. Light shows green when I talk on mic.

With Protools 8 window up it says in 1 (mono) path inactive.

I have fasttrack pro selected in my midi interface.

Everything works fine when I switch to Audacity. But I want to use Pro Tools.

What am I doing wrong? I just want to record my voice to make sure all this stuff works.

I need basic instructions to open a track activate it record my voice. Play it back.

imac 24 inch OS 10.5.8. Just installed FastTrack interface version 1.8.0

Hi,

With Protools 8 window up it says in 1 (mono) path inactive.
this can have several reasons. But essentiall telling you that you cannot receive signals on that channel.

I have fasttrack pro selected in my midi interface.is it possible you created an MIDI track instead of a Mono Audio Track accidentally?

also things you can try:
reset your input paths in "Setup -> I/O...-> Input" to "Default"

- with the Softmixer Control Software for the FastTrack Pro can route your
microphone input to a different channels of the Softmixer inside the FastTrack.
Check the Software to which channel the Microphone is routed to.

- create an Mono Audio Track inside of Pro Tools and select that one channel of the FastTrack that has the Microphone as input.

and set the track output of the ProTools Audio Track the the correct channel of the the FastTrack that is routed to the output.
The FastTrack Pro has a very powerful Softmixer inside, so routing can get quite complex.

Also in Pro Tools, enable Track -> Audio Input Monitoring.
Otherwise you have to arm (record-enable) an audio track first, to hear any audio input.

maybe this helps :)
Best

Yes. I thought so, but I am trying to figure out what setting is wrong, or what switch is not connected.

is it possible you created an MIDI track instead of a Mono Audio Track accidentally?

I went to the "Track" menu and created 1 Mono Audio Track in Samples.
I think that is what you mean. So it is not a midi track.

reset your input paths in "Setup -> I/O...-> Input" to "Default"

Ok. I did that.

microphone input to a different channels of the Softmixer inside the FastTrack.
Check the Software to which channel the Microphone is routed to.

Ok. This might be the problem. I do not know how to get to this software. Not the "Audio Midi Setup" utility? How do I open this?

- create an Mono Audio Track inside of Pro Tools and select that one channel of the FastTrack that has the Microphone as input.

I can't do this. I go down to the "I/O" panel in Pro Tools but when I select interface it says "in 1 (mono) - path inactive" which means I am doing something wrong before reaching this menu.

Also in Pro Tools, enable Track -> Audio Input Monitoring.
Otherwise you have to arm (record-enable) an audio track first, to hear any audio input.

I did this and can hear my microphone nicely. So the mic seems hooked up alright.

Thank you for trying to help.

aaaahh,
I confused the FastTrack Pro with the FastTrack Ultra.

the Pro does not have a Softmixer. So there is no additional software for it (besides the System Preferences).

sorry for that,
m.

I was actually glad to find out there was not some obscure software I had missed.

Thanks for trying to help.
