Anyone knows what is the best upgrade for
9600/350 ? Is it true that G3/500 upgrade is better than G4/500 especially for Pro Tools?

Yes it's true. The G4's are not recommended, stick with a G3 upgrade and you'll have fewer headaches. You'll still have some headaches, unless you're one of the luucky ones. I upgraded my 9600/350 to the Newer G3 500/250 and had some problems initially, but am flyin' now.

I too have the Newer Tech. G-3 500 the only problem is that newer went out of buisness. Their latest driver 4.1 is working great with my 9600/300 I do have lots of Ram. 5.01 is a ram hog and needs lts of DSP . 5.1 is worse you'll need a mix plus, plus to run it. You should check out buying a new g4 400 with the extra slot, this would give you the ability to have a mix, plus, plus with one video card. I am going to do the same ASAP. They run about $1400.00. it's a good prise . But then again each time a think about getting a new computer I talk myself out of it. mine works fine just as it is and I can use 2 moniters. So many decisions, to little time.

I had to upgrade my 9600/300 during a busy session last year and made a quick calculation and decided to get a G3/400 CPU upgrade from NewerTech. It has worked flawlessly since and DOES deliver that extra power to the system and PT 5.1 seems to work fine also. I'll only move to g4 when I can run dual DVI monitors.
