View Full Version : Is it possible to run PT5 on an 8100 w/G3 card?

I've got an 8100 with a 300MHz G3 card, NuBus expansion chassis 2 DIsk I/Os and lots of DSP farms. Works great with PT 4.2 but it sure would be cool if I could run PT 5.

Anybody know any sneaky tricks to get this to work? My problem seems to be with DAE 5.0, it won't launch on the 8100 and PT 5 won't work with an older DAE.

I've just tried on our system (8100 w/G3 220 card), and it works, but to an extent.

The Mac is running OS 8.1, with PT 5.0 and DSI 3.4.1 + DAE 5.0 (hacked with ResEdit to make PT recognise it as 3.4.1, just open up a copy of DAE 5.0 with ResEdit and copy the 'vers' box and paste it on top of the 'vers' box of DAE 3.4.1).

The problem is that, although I have 7 farm cards in the NuBus expansion chassis, I can only run non-Digi plug-ins because PT reports that the DSP is unavailable for ALL the standard plugs. The 3rd party plug-ins work fine and use all the farm cards OK. I haven't tested the MIDI functions, but OMS sees the MTP-AV OK.

Has anyone else tried this before? I'm just trying to give this old NuBus system another lease of life until we will eventually sell it, but at the moment I'm going back to PT 4.3 because I need the DSP and the Digi plugs to work.

PT 5.0 looked good though on the old 8100...
