I recently bought my new G4 and try to migrate my Internal Seagates from 9600/300 to a G4/400 w/Atto express PCI HBA DC.
At first it only recognized one drive (oldest one) w/PT5 sessions and never recognized my other 2 internal and newer HDs, then after 3 whole days of madness I decided to return the G4 and stick to my Old and trusted Dinosaur. But I tried the last thing and installed my old Adaptec AHA2940 instead of the new ATTO and it worked immediately with no errors.
Now is working with dual head PROMAX AGP VIDEO CARD(for a lot less money).
Of course it is necessary to follow digidsesign's compatibility specifications and I will try again to put the ATTO Host in the G4, but I am beginning to suspect that there will be no troubles for some of Us with Adaptec hosts.
If any of you guys had this kind of mishaps, please I will appreciate the input.

Did you drop the sync rate(20/10)and burst rate (32)on the ATTO card? Did you call ATTO tech support for help?

The Adaptec card will work, but the idea of having a qualified card is to keep everyone on the same page concerning compatibility. Also, the ATTO card is the leader when it comes to data streaming and Macs.

I thought the burst rate was supposed to be 16 on the ATTO....?

You should have kept the G4 and reformatted the drives with the ATTO utility. Also, download the 1.44 ROM for the ATTO card from the Digi site (not from ATTO), as the current 1.63 version ROM that likely came with the card has not been approved my Digi yet.

Hey Guys, I did keep the G4 and is working with the old AHA2940. The only thing is you have only one scsi bus and one ATA but for the moment its Ok I got 32 Tracks enough to continue working and next week ATTO is sending my new card which by the way was fried before I bought it.
