Which model DELL Laptop? Have you checked the Laptop thread and compatibility link below to make sure your laptop works with Pro Tools?

Hey Karli, is there internal Firewire on the laptop ?? or are you using a PCMCIA card for connectivity to the 002 ???

I'd try updating Windows, and all available CS updates reccomended by digi at the top of this forum, disabling any background services, creating an administrator NEW USER account in WinXP and trying to run pro-tools under the new user account.

This, all... as rail said, if your laptop is compatable with pro-tools.... if not... being new, perhaps you could trade it on a model that is, at the store where it was purchased.

The laptop is Inspiron 9200.. It was supposed to be Pro Tools compatible... I have everything hooked up correct, and I did everything that the manual told me to do.. I just don't know why this screen keeps coming up after I try to start a new session...

Which version of Pro Tools? 6.4cs9? Do you have SP2 installed?

http://www.digidesign.com/download/cs/

If you right click on My Computer and select properties odds are you have Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed on your new laptop.

You require 6.4cs9 to run SP2

PCMCIA is the slot in the side of your computer.

if you're running a cable straight from the lap-top to the digi 002, then you've got built in Firewire, and are not using a PCMCIA card.

did you try all of the things in my above post ???

as mentioned above "SP2" is a major windows update, and if you are going to update to SP2, you need to read the thread at the top of this forum "Windows Service Pack 2 compatabillity"
