OT: Gigastudio as standalone DAW

I've got a question for anyone that uses Gigastudio. I'm wondering if it will work as a standalone DAW. He doesn't have protools but does have an old copy of cakewalk. I was just curious if Gigastudio can be used w/o Cakewalk as a DAW... in other words can you use it as a multitrack recorder (either with or without actual audio recordings) or is it basically just a sampler? Let me know what you think please.
