Drum Programming Help

Hey Guys,

I've never been particularly good at programming drum tracks and I also find it hard to listen to a song and be able to pick out whats happening in the drums and put that down in midi. I heard a song recently and liked the drums style but I wasnt able to get everything what was happening and wasnt sure which drums to use. I have put up a little part of the song, so would anybody be able to give me any suggestions or help on how to go about it and what is actually going on, on the track.

It has that really 'boom, tis, cha, tica tica, tis, cha, tica, boom' hehe

Sorry bout that, only way I can describe them. Not much of a beat boxer myself. It seems the kick and snare and maybe even hats are hitting several times quickly to give that reversy repeaty kinda sound, is this programmed as a simple rythm then delays applied or are their other drum sounds used to get that sound?

Hey Scott,

Thanks for the link. I've read this article a couple of weeks ago, Very helpful indeed.
Except this time I am wanting something more specific, If not an almost exact version of this drum beat.

I've come across this rhythm in a lot of songs but can never figure out exactly what is going on and also, Ive dont have a sample of the rythm itself, so I find it hard to pick out the parts with other instruments around it.

Is there any way of seperating the midi tracks into say, Kick, Snare and Hats, rather than them all being on the same midi track?

I can do this manually but it seems to be a bit slow. Also using Sampletank, I have a drumkit loaded into 1, would I have to load the same kit into 2 and 3 for each midi track to be able to play its part of the kit?

Any programming help for that rhythm would still be greatly appreciated.

No way to separate them automatically. The Split notes command is probably the easiest and quickest way to do that.

When you have multiple MIDI tracks triggering the same instrument (in this case, drumkit), you only need one instance of the instrument; just set the output of each MIDI track to that instrument/channel.
