Hey all,

Looking to migrate a live sample rig to the 002r and PT. Currently using a PowerBook with OS9, running Logic 5, and using a MOTU 828mkII. The reason we havent upgraded in so long is that it works, albeit with some fat albert fixes that work without explanation. Another benefit of logic is the ability to have multiple sessions open simultaneousy.

Anyway was thinking of going to PT with the 002r instead of the Logic/MOTU combination and wondering what the experiences are if any. Also any thoughts on how to defeat the multiple sessions needing to be open problem. I thought about having one big session with markers at the different song start points, but was wondering if there was a better way.

Thanks all again,

Pete

I recently did a live session with iBook and 002R. No problems... just tedious work slicing up the work afterward

As far as live recording, did you use any other preapms, ect.. The 002 only has 8 and 4 of those having gain.

How do you record a full band with the 002.??

I regularly record my daughter's high school choir and have also been recording open mics for acoustical guitar. I have used only the preamps that came with the 002 and I have an old portable SONY MX-14 from the 70's to use with mics that do not need phantom power.

I just recorded the evening straight through and sliced it up into their own sessions when I got home.

Some examples:

i have a 002R + presonus digimax lt connected to a 1.25GHz powerbook (1GB memory, 7200rpm internal drive, lacie firewire hard drive connected via lacie pcmcia fw800 bridge card).

i use external reverb via spdif i/o, take 16 inputs, provide a stereo FOH mix for the crowd, a stereo monitor mix for wireless systems, and 2-4 mono monitor mixes for regular monitors. i put in all the necessary dynamics plugins and drive cpu to 75% maxx. no problem there, as long as the hard drive is in different firewire buss than the audio interface. (if they are in the same buss, recording of 16 tracks becomes impossible.)

and by recording and live mixing i mean 3 hour sessions, not some 3 minute takes

EDIT: because i provide monitor mixes for the band, i have to use 256 hardware buffer. still works nicely.

Let me clarify,

I was looking for people who have actually used a 002r to playback tracks during a live show. I will be triggering the samples during the live show not recording anything with it.

During a 12 - 15 show set we have 3 - 5 songs that we play along to samples and a click track all run from a logic/motu setup. Was looking for someone or some band that someone knows of that actually uses the 002 for playing tracks and not recording them.

Sorry

so you will not be making foh mix from your digital rack? now i see. protools will be fine with that, you just set up your sessions and use it - you can for example route the actual sample to a foh console and a click track to monitor console if you like, or whatever. if you want to just have the sample to be played, you would in fact be fine with mbox setup too, which is really low-cost entry to the protools world.

i have a 002R and am happy with it. not VERY happy, because i'm limited to 16 input tracks plus one spdif i/o, but all in all it's a nice and capable package.

just remember to optimize your playback hard drive
