How Come! A big professionall company like Digidesign doesn't offer a free automatic updating service that scans your machine when you tell it to and automatically updates and downloads everything that needs to be updated ? Like my $12,000.00 graphics RIP software does or Windoze update or Photoshop update or Apple Software Update ...Well I could go on and on..But you know how the English are "holding on in quiet desperation" too bad that most if not all of your customers have had at least one bad experience with Digidesign software and/or hardware.

You'd rather have the CPU eating up precious cycles and denying that extra power to your plug-ins just so you can have an auto-update feature? Have you noticed that in digi's OSX setup instructions they tell you to disable Apple's auto update feature? It's the same idea as that, or as disabling auto-sleep, or screen savers - all that stuff does is run extra crap in the background, which is CPU cycles your computer could use for Protools.

I agree slim.

People just complain too much.

Let's just get to making music, that's why you bought your digi products anyway right?

The reason to disable OS auto-update (screen savers, auto sleep) is to avoid having the computer do something unexpected while you're working on a session. ProTools could easily check for an update each time it's started, and alert you if an update is available. This would take zero cycles while you're actually working on a session. It would be the same as having a 'check for updates' button.

It would be a nice little feature, but not nearly as important for ProTools as it is for the OS. ProTools minor updates are infrequent, and it's just one program. OS X (or Windows) is comprised of a large number of modules, keeping all of them up-to-date manually would be a big headache.
