I just installed a slot loading superdrive into my pismo, it fit right into the expansion bay where the DVD ROM used to be and was only a matter of changing out 4 screws. The model I got was the PANASONIC UJ-825-B from newegg.com. It burns cds fine (I had to download patchburn II for itunes/finder support) but I haven't had luck with dvds yet. Also try ebay.

Well I have found that these models work for the Pismo

PANASONIC UJ-825-B
PANASONIC CW-8123b
Sony CRX-830e (I heard this is the best one)

Does anybody know where I can find any of these drives besides on ebay and newegg?

I haven't had luck with DVDs meaning that I got buffer underrun errors the 2 or 3 times I tried to burn a dvd with toast. However, I haven't tried again since I upgraded toast from 5.2.1 to 5.2.3, which adds buffer underrun support for my drive.
Not sure why you wouldn't want to buy from newegg or ebay, but you could always try google's froogle product search or some other price tracker.
good luck!

I need to buy one for my Pismo. The original drive mounts discs about 10% of the time.
I don't know if it's a bad drive or some kind of software conflict, it spins up trying to mount
then won't work. For sure the above mentioned drives do work on the Pismo?
Thanks
