Reduce cymbal leakage..how ???
How can I reduce the volume of my crashes WITHOUT altering the sound of the whole kit ???
Everything sounds great but on certain passages my crashes are blaring...Thanks |

Re: Reduce cymbal leakage..how ???
i have tried compressing the cymbals. this works pretty good. the best solution, i have found, is to re-record the tracks with a more conservative drum-playing style.
unless your cymbals are bleeding into other tracks; then your screwed. |

You *could* try a de-esser, like the Waves one.

Re: Reduce cymbal leakage..how ???
There is a large number of ways to deal with it, most of them by employing dynamics (comp/exp/dynamic eq/de-essing) or by frequency-splitting the tracks. But I'd go with the previous post. Ride the faders.

Re: Reduce cymbal leakage..how ???
It is all about choosing the right mic for the job and mic placement. If the drums are recorded properly and the mics are placed correctly, there should not be any significant cym leakage on any of the close mic tracks.
What tracks are you getting the cym leakage on? [This message has been edited by Stratman (edited 10-31-99).]
