Default Weird ring mod distortion Issue 16x16

Ok. I am running and aurora 8 and a 16X16. I had someone send me an 88.2k session and its been ring mod distortion city. I am running my aurora as the clock source. Its the only way to be able to hook the word clock out to the loop sync connection of the 16X16. The session plays fine. When i record something that audio is all ringy and distorted sounding. I thought it was my UAD card causing it but its something with the interfaces. I have syncro lock and the sample rates are lined up. The loop light on the avid interface is solid. They are synched as far as I can see. If i put the buffer size up to 1024 or higher it will work clear for a minute then in the middle of the recording track will pop back to ring modulation sound. I have had this happen on 48k but only when using certain uad plugins.

I am at a loss. My system is jacked and I have no idea what is wrong. Its obviously a sync problem.

I got hit by lightening awhile back. It took out my LTHD card on my aurora. I am wondering is something is messed up somewhere. It should work.

I took the lynx out. I am just using the 16X16 and its still doing it. I lowered the buffer and the ring distortion comes back.

Interface bad?

Default Ring Mod Distortion HDX protools 12

I am getting a ring mod sounding distortion. Its really bad on 88.2k files. I am running HDX and and avid 16 by 16. At 48k it will happen sometime when tracking. I thought it might be my UAD card causing it but now I am thinking its something else. I was running my lynx aurora as a master clock and the 16X16 as a slave and it distorted at 88.2k. Now i have the lynx out of the chain and its still doing it. I removed all plugins. I am running windows 7 on a skylake setup. I am on 12.6. I reverted to 11 but it still did it. If i change the buffer it will temporarily remedy the issue but it comes back quickly at lower buffer.

Tech support call would be awesome!!! I think my hardware might be messed up. I did take a power surge a few months back. Not sure if that is why its doing it.

Posting sandra. I also have a thread in the HDX windows section. Was not sure where to post this unique problem. Not sure if its hardware or software causing it.

All cards except video and HDX are installed and its still doing it.

Exclamation Re: Ring Mod Distortion HDX protools 12

I have witnessed (heard) this with HDX on OS X. It is more likely to happen if you have a track in BOTH record AND input monitor while recording. The probability of this occurring should be less, but not zero, if you are using Pro Tools v12.6.

Please open a support case with Avid. The only hope they have of solving this problem is if customers keep reporting it when it happens and providing Avid with data related to the occurrence.

Ok so this is a known issue? I will open a case.

It's really discouraging. I just said screw it and cancelled two sessions. Spent all day trouble shooting. Still couldn't get it to stop doing it.
