Curious if you see this pre-El Capitan. Some folks having graphics related problems on El Capitan (that the Quartz Debug beam-sync work around can no longer fix) thanks to major changes to graphics in El Capitan.

With the large number of issues with El Crapitan i certainly would not be "upgrading" to it. One of the worst OS X releases in many years.

On the other hand I also would not over-rely on the Pro Tools meters. Try running stuff you need and see if you have problems. Do the system's activity meters show a similar increase?

Thanks Daryl. Well, when it hammers red on the CPU I get the clicking etc.
This happens on any project I have. I can have it as a full project, or even just one VI. Problem still happens as documented in the video that I made last night.

I can freeze the VI track and it seems to calm down, but I would also be interested if this happens before 10.11.xx

Anyone else able to confirm this test I did?

Thank you for your time.

Dave

Between the i5, which is much less potent than an i7 quad, and the intel graphics, which uses(draws from) the system RAM, I'm not too surprised. How much RAM is installed?

Thanks Dave. I was doing these tests on a simple Mac Mini Late 2014 i5 2.6 with 8 gigs of Ram Installed running external Thunderbolt HHD 7200

I do have another Mac Mini coming today which is i7 3.0 16 gigs ram 1TB SSD

I will test and upload another video.

Please see this reply from Avid...

As for that dual monitor video, I know engineering is tracking a bug currently with high resolution monitors (4k and up) that is causing some weird rendering and CPU issues. I wonder if that second monitor is at an ultra HD resolution which would cause those issues (and mirroring the display would force it to a lower resolution).

I really don't know what to say on this one

So there is no fix at the moment.

Only in a future update.

Avid support said any 4k 5k ect monitors with dual hookup will exhibit CPU spikes. They asked me to work in a lower resolution until an update happens.

Thoughts..

So is it better to

A. Return 32 " 2560x1440 monitor because of CPU spikes that cannot be fixed at this point. (If I freeze certain VI tracks it goes away)

B. Buy 27" 1920x1080 monitor and have no CPU spikes.

Thoughts?
