Its like making shortcuts to plug-ins when you do not know if the user actually installed them. ;-)
Yeah. It would be more of something I make that would only work for me.

QuicKeys is still my choice for these things.

Thanks

Don't underestimate AppleScript. I was a huge QuicKeys fan before, shared a lot of shortcuts way back but for things like this AS is faster. Actually I have shortcuts to call presets for my own purpose already but like I mentioned, those need to be customized for every user.

Here's a little demo movie of me entering a shortcut and adding a track preset called "Voiceover" to my empty session. It merely takes half a second.

Hey Oliver... where should I go about researching how to AppleScript for Pro Tools? I am using filemaker for spotting notes (on film) and would love to be able to applescript a selection and capture the start/end timecode and have it entered into my filemaker database.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Keep in mind that Pro Tools isn't scriptable really but you can achieve some nice things via GUI scripting. Google for AppleScript and GUI or UI scripting. Some nice resources are places like macscripter.net and www.macosxautomation.com, both are not dedicated to Pro Tools though. Frankly I haven't found a Pro Tools specific site for scripting yet.

Awesome. Yeah. To me, that's the real time-saver.

Making the presets might take a bit longer but we'd only be doing that once.

Thanks

I am done with it and I tested it on 3 Macs.
It requires PT 11.1 and OS X 10.8.4, which is the minimum requirement. I developed it on Mavericks though.
PT 11.0 - 11.0.3 is not supported due to major AppleScript flaws in those versions. In theory PT 10 support could be accomplished but I do not feel like supporting older PT versions right now.

Everyone who's interested to test this can send me a private message.

The plan is to release it in January.

To sum it up:
You get an installer which installs an Automator Action, Service and a CLI tool to enable the Notification Center support.
After you installed the stuff, you will see the Automator Service appear in the Pro Tools menu under "Services".
You then can assign a shortcut to this Service via System Preferences/Keyboard/Shortcuts/Services.

I finally got around to using Kenny's method for setting up track presets with PTHD 11.1.1 and Windows 8.1. There are actually 2 places in Windows where you will find the folder "Session Templates". I found the wrong one first.

The one you Do Not want to use as the key for making your Track Presets folder is C:\Program Files\Avid\Pro Tools\Factory Content\Session Templates.

The one you Do want to use is in ~Documents\Pro Tools\Session Templates (where ~ stands for C:\Program Files\Users\"Your Name"\). This correct Documents folder should show up by just opening Explorer.

While both locations will ultimately work, the one you do not want to use will require you to shut down PT every time you save a track preset - PT writes whatever you put into the wrong folder into the right folder every time you start/stop PT. Using the correct file folder allows you to save and use the presets without leaving PT as Kenny shows in his video.

Thanks for the video Kenny. Track Presets is truly a great time saver.

Hope this may help someone.

Greg

Perhaps someone might have a solid answer for this. I've recently done a system restore. Prior to this all of my presets worked perfectly. I downgraded to 11.0.2 which resolved most of the problems that were occurring with track presets except for this: When I open a track preset the input routing is greyed out.

Its not too much hassle to set them back to what they should be but this wasn't a problem that I encountered before. It would be great if someone has a solution!

btw if anybody cares. DO NOT UPGRADE TO 11.1.2 if you use track presets. Lots of crashing and the routing goes completely awry.
