Default 003 Rack standalone does not work in Win7

It's pretty clear now that the 003 Rack does not work in Windows 7 64 bit. The published drivers load fine and report that they are functioning correctly, but no software can see or use the interface in any manner. It seems that this is because the Digi drivers do not support 64 bit OS in Windows 7. I wish Avid would put that on the downloads page.

Am I right?

Yes you are right, which is why once a 64Bit version of Pro Tools comes along the 002' 003's etc won't be able to be used with it. At least that's Avid's official stance.

There has been debate about the driver issue but Avid claims the problem is more to do with chipset/circuitry.

The discussion continues, and the truth remains....debatable.

My 003 Rack works fine on Win 7 64-bit...

But read my post #15 and follow-ons on this thread:

http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?p...=1#post1792191

Follow those instruction exactly, and if you still have a problem it's probably a Firewire issue. I've forgotten which Firewire driver you should use, but I think it's the "legacy" driver...search on here to double-check...

Mine works fine too Bill, but that's because Pro Tools is 32Bit.

I think the OP is referring to it working in true complete 64Bit environment.

His statement "It's pretty clear now that the 003 Rack does not work in Windows 7 64 bit" is misleading though as you're right, the 003 works fine on Win7 64Bit in Pro Tools. My initial reaction was exactly the same as yours but then I thought he may be trying to use it in a 64Bit program.

Maybe the OP can clarify what he is asking.

Well, this seems to be a curiously complex issue. However, note that I got my system working! I simply installed the old 'legacy' (XP?) drivers for the 002 and 003 racks. It works splendidly in my Sonar X1 Producer Expanded (x64 version). And, it works as a Windows system sound output device, a general sound card for other apps, etc. I'm happy as long as I can get sound out of this puppy.
