Default Mbox Mini 3

Hi Guys,

I could not find an answer in the history, so I would appreciate for your support:

I have ordered a new Mbox Mini 3. Currently, I am using the Mbox Micro.

Do I have to install Protools 8.04 again before or after installing my new Mbox or is it sufficient to simply install the Mbox and (hopefully) Protools will recognise the device once it is properly set up?

Many thanks in advance.
M.

In the case of the new Mboxes, the software should be fine. The issue is that there are new drivers for the new products. You may need to uninstall the old driver and download and install the new one.

One reason for this change is that the new drivers are completely separate from the Protools software, which they've done to make the new interfaces more easily compatible with other DAW software.

I have checked the page for updates. But this is somehow confusing:

http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...p?DocId=374271

Protools 8.04. requires a correct interface connected to work. Therefore, a stand-alone driver seems to be the exact contrary of what I need.

I want to avoid reinstalling my existing Pro tools 8.04 (now that I have simply 'upgraded' my interface by buying the new mbox).

Is there any driver for this?

What I don't understand is why the MBOX 3 Mini is only 48khz and not 96khz?

For me, just stay with (or buy) an MBOX 2 mini.

I fail to see what improvements warrant an inflated price for the same spec and with more grief with installation! ha ha! It's mad.

And all that talk about better preamps and DA convertors - same old same old..........I don't buy it - and won't buy it!

And before I'm done - beware of 8.0.4 - you're better off using 8.0.3.........

The new Mboxes are in fact significantly better sounding. I haven't seen one person who's used them say they're not.

96khz will certainly improve the sound (ie. mbox2 to mbox3) but as for the difference between mbox2 mini and mbox3 mini I think not as they both stick at 48khz. The quality of mic will make more of a difference but their spec is pretty much the same.....

It isn't a matter of specs, it's a matter of a complete redesign from the ground up. There's been a lot of info about this.

Everything worked well!

I simply installed the new drivers then I connected my new mbox mini and restarted the machine. I opened Protools and after clicking "yes" to change of audio settings, I could start working on my session created on the old interface.

I also agree that the new Mbox sounds significantly better. The only thing that I do not like is the headphone output. It is not very loud even when you turn up the volume to max.

Monitor out is ok though.
