No Movie Present- H.264 Mp4 23.97 Frame Rate
Hello,
I'm working on a video that was given to me as a H.264 Mp4 at a frame rate of 23.97. It is 4 GB and runs about an hour and a half. When I import the video into pro tools it says No Movie Present. I can see frames of the video in the video track but the playback window itself shows no movie. The video plays back fine in quicktime and in my apple finder window. I've even imported it into logic on a friends computer and it works fine there too. I've already checked to make sure there are no illegal characters in the file name as well. I'm running Pro tools 8.0.1 LE on a Digi 003 Hardware Overview: Model Name: MacBook Model Identifier: MacBook2,1 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache: 4 MB Memory: 4 GB Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks! Last edited by jesterguy00; 07-12-2010 at 11:40 AM. Reason: Needed to put more information. |

Re: No Movie Present- H.264 Mp4 23.97 Frame Rate
The best codec to use is DV, big files and no overhead on CPU. By contrast h264 is the opposite.
I would download mpeg streamclip and convert to dv if it were me. Hope it helps.

Re: No Movie Present- H.264 Mp4 23.97 Frame Rate
Thanks for the help so far,
My next problem is that I can't seem to convert the video from mpeg 4 to DV. I have tried using quicktime pro but when the video is finished exporting it is just a white screen for the whole movie. I'm trying to use Mpeg streamclip but whenever I go to export to DV it gives me an error that the movie can't be read. A lot of other people on the internet seem to be having the mpeg streamclip export problem but I can't find a solution. I read that maybe I need some sort of quicktime mpeg 2 component to make it work? Thanks again. |

Re: No Movie Present- H.264 Mp4 23.97 Frame Rate
QuickTime Pro should be able to output a DV movie that PT recognizes. There are a bunch of settings that you need to get right, but I'm not able to check that now.
I will try and look at it later, but it certainly does work. |

Re: No Movie Present- H.264 Mp4 23.97 Frame Rate
Interesting:
It's either H264 or Mpeg2, not both. It sounds like you may be using a codec which isn't native to Quicktime. The best option would be to install Perian, this will add DIVX and other codecs to Quicktime and will likely resolve the Streamclip issue, that app is bulletproof i use it all the time and i rarely have issues. Also VLC is good way to check that the file is good but the codec is the issue. If VLC wont play it generally nothing will. Cheers

Re: No Movie Present- H.264 Mp4 23.97 Frame Rate
I've installed Perian(the swiss army knife) and mpeg streamclip is still having the same "can't prepare movie" error. I also have tried converting the mpeg4 to a DV file( and motion jpeg and many other tries) in Quicktime pro, but all of the exported videos just come out as white screens.I can watch the video in quicktime and in VLC and in Mpeg Streamclip and it works just fine, but it just seems to have problems being converted. I'm guessing if I can get the video to a different format it will work, but getting it there is causing some problems of it's own.

Re: No Movie Present- H.264 Mp4 23.97 Frame Rate
As a last resort, if you can get the movie to playback in a time line (Final Cut, Premiere) you could print the movie back to DV tape and then recapture.
Time consuming and a pain but may work. Also, Handbrake now supports file conversion so i would poss give that a try also to get it in to a readable friendly format.

Re: No Movie Present- H.264 Mp4 23.97 Frame Rate
I'm having the exact same problem. Any news on that issue? Strange thing is, the guy who sent me the video says, that he didn't change anything in his settings and the last time he gave me something, it worked pretty well...

Re: No Movie Present- H.264 Mp4 23.97 Frame Rate
I am having the exact same problem. I have imported a Quicktime formated video into my protools session - while the audio imports - the video does not - with a "no Movie Picture" message in the video viewer window.
Pro tools is also now crashing with the "Segmentation fault" in thread "MainThread", at address 0x0 What should I do? |
