Default MBox 2 drivers

I apologize if this is a dumb question, but after much searching, I've come up with nothing.

My friend bought a used MBox 2 a couple years ago off craigslist. He had it working OK with a PowerMac, but eventually the thing just died. So, I helped him get a new laptop, originally running Vista. He couldn't get his version of Pro Tools (6.something, I think) to work. So he got a version (I think off Craigslist), which is PTLE 8. He couldn't get that to work, either. We then upgraded his laptop to Windows 7.

Basically, he gets a little bit into the installation procedure, and it fails because it can't find drivers for his MBox 2. This should be a simple thing to download off digidesign's website, but I can't find anything for the life of me. Where would I download MBox 2 drivers? It seems like everything should work just fine if the PC could just recognize the device.

I also know he's never updated the MBox 2's firmware, but I don't know if that's an issue.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Jon

If it is the 64 bit version of Windows 7, then it will not work. Digidesign has not made 64 bit drivers yet. Reinstall with a 32 bit operating system.

XP works best. Vista is also supported. 32 bit version of Win7 works, but is not guaranteed.

My reply is true if you are using Pro Tools LE 8. If you are trying PTLE 6.x, then there may be other requirements.

For Vista, you need at LEAST 7.4, earlier versions will not work.

No, it's Win7 x86 (32-bit). And I got it working. It was just ridiculously difficult to find the drivers. Had to do some reboots during the PTLE install, but it worked out.

Here are the drivers, in case anyone else needs to know:

http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...4&itemid=23087

Scroll to the bottom and click "Standalone Windows Audio Drivers v7.4"

You may need to create an account and login.

Also, when using Pro Tools on Windows 7, always start Pro Tools by right clicking on Pro Tools and choosing "run as admin". Some of the features and dialog and settings will be hard to change if you do not run as admin this way. Especially when first setting it up and when first activating plugins.

I'm a little confiused, the Windows stand aone drivers are for the ASIO single client setup and not designed to run Pro Tools 8. If you are trying to install PT8 as you have said, the 7.4 ASIO drivers should not be used.

Hmm... who knows? My buddy installed Win7, popped in the Mbox 2, no response (the lights didn't even come on, or only 1 of 3 lights or something). He installed PTLE8, and it didn't work. Then he downloaded those drivers (7.4 of whatever), rebooted, installed PTLE8 again, and it worked.

I could find NO link to anything other than the v7.4 drivers. Those are just the drivers for the Mbox 2, though, shouldn't work with any version of PTLE, right? PTLE has its own drivers...

I don't know, all I can say is it's definitely working now, and he's psyched.
