Digidesign sells an MP3 Export software so you can bounce to MP3 from Protools. You can find it in the DigiStore. What some folks are doing is using a free WAV to MP3 program that you can get all over the Internet. Some use Apple iTunes to do this too. From Protools, bounce to WAV and then convert the WAV to MP3.

Sorry, I don't understand the questions here. Are you asking if the MP3 option software from Digidesign requires the iLok key? If so, no, the iLok is not required to use the MP3 option.

There ARE plenty of good free mp3 converters out there, however. If you don't want to shell out just for the PT export feature. However, if you get any of the ToolKits, it comes included.

The whole iTunes way is pretty simple and free. There's also a free converter that does more than .mp3 and it's called Max http://sbooth.org/Max/

Cheers!!

Hey I'm new here... so HI! lol

I bought the Mp3 option a while ago.. then I upgraded my protools... do you have to continue buying it with different upgrades or is it supposed to carry over? (obviously) I no longer have the option after i upgraded..

If you're burning to a CD why MP3 it? Keep it as wav files and you won't lose any quality through compression. If you really want MP3 then, as others have said, iTunes does it pretty well as does Audacity if I remember rightly.

You should contact Digidesign Customer Support to see if there is a free upgrade to the MP3 option for different versions of Protools.
