command 8 or mackie control universal pro
Hi,
I just purchased a rack 03 + for the extra ports. I would like a control surface and was looking at buying a command 8 or mcu pro. This is a home studio running pro-tools 8. Nothing fancy, just for pre-production recording, etc. I like the command 8 but I was checking out the MCU Pro and it's expandable to 24 faders, etc. In order to upgrade from the command 8 my upgrade path wold be to a control 24. Obviously, this is DUC but is there anything I'm not taking into consideration. Are there any other control surfaces that I should take into consideration. |

Re: command 8 or mackie control universal pro
With one button you can control more than 8 faders just not all at once. I looked at the Mackie but preferred to stick with the Command 8 as I didn't need more than 8 live faders and could quickly switch. I do like the dedicated time on the right that mackie has as it is more isolated and easier to read. I also liked the shuttle wheel.

Re: command 8 or mackie control universal pro
you know after looking around I'm actually leaning towards getting a tascam fw-1884. The reason being I can run the 18884 with it's inputs and connect to the digi 003 rack via optical input / output. That would increase the amount of inputs, make the tascam available for stand alone use if ever needed and with the addition of the tascam fe 8 I can control the the other inputs on the rack +. I think it's the way I'm going. Any input before I purchase?

Re: command 8 or mackie control universal pro
Funny you mention that as I have one of those too. I started with that. It is very bulky, heavy and "I" had a lot of problems getting the firewire to work on my macbook pro 2008 as it won't recognize it for some odd reason. I was only able to get mine to work with Sonar back in the days but I was looking at it as a midi controller before I got the C8. I really like the C8. I personally don't like the FW1884.
