003 goes offline

Can someone tell me why my Digi 003 board randomly goes offline??

I just created a new project - added two tracks - 1 audio and 1 master and the 003 goes offline.

I look on the back and the 1394 link is green and everything is connected properly to my computer.

I have a dialog on my screen that says "lost contact with 003 please reconnect and click ok. I do that and the dialog just blinks and the 003 still says Offline.

I recently upgraded to 8.0.1 and I don't remember it doing this with 8.0.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

No help for you, but my M-Box 2 pro does the same thing. It will just suddenly lose connection with pro tools. I have to power down the m-box, and restart pt to get a connection again. Running pt 8 on an optimized XP system. Does anyone knows why it does this?

I think it must have been a corrupt session or something. Or, it may have something to do with the firewire external hard drive I am using.

I killed that session and started another one and created the same tracks in a new session and it isn't doing it - the 003 is remaining online.

But I am still somewhat suspicious of the hard drive. It is one of those that seems to stop talking to the computer until you open windows explorer and try to access it. Then you will hear it power up and get going. I am wondering if that may have something to do with it.

Could that be it? The hard drive goes to "sleep" (for lack of a better term) and the 003 thinks the session died and goes offline?? maybe? Has anyone experienced that?

Is it one of those Green Drives? They do that and are nothing but problems with PT.
