Default 10.4.11/LE 7.4/Digi 002 -- MIDI Latency and other Issues.

I've recently upgraded to an Intel Mac Quad (2 x 2 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xenon) with 3.667 DDR2 FB-DIMM RAM. I'm currently running OS 10.4.11 and am using ProTools LE 7.4/Digi 002 Rack. I utilize an extensive sample library including: KONTAKT 3 (Libraries and Interface), EWQL Gold, Colossus & RA. I also frequently use Xpand!, SampleTank, and Reason Adapted.

I've had several problems sicne this switch, none of which I had on my old system/most of which I have been able to correct over time. The only remaining and seemingly impossible issues to resolve have been constant errors during sessions such as: "firewire bus reset", "lost communication with DIGI 002", "cannot communicate with Digi 002", and horriffic MIDI input latency delays and missing notes on MIDI input.

My concern is that this is an issue with the firewire port(s) on the Digi 002 unit itelf or the Firewire configuraton in the Mac. Has anyone had similar issues? Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm running out of answers and my workflow is making it difficult to manage these issues.

Please someone help!!

Thanks.

J

Are you using a dedicated audio drive? (you probably are) The only thing that worked for me (on a dual G5) was to use a
firewire card and connect firewire card to firewire drive to digi 002. A decent firewire card is not too expensive. Might be worth a try... Also plugging my Digi 002 into firewire 400 port, and connecting Lacie HD into firewire 800 port seemed to make my system really solid. Midi latency can be solved by lowering the sample buffer.
