Sound Quality Pro Tools 12
I'm new to Pro Tools 12. Before this I used to record on Adobe Audition 3.0 before I decided to make the investment. One thing I loved about Adobe was the user friendly interface as far as noise reduction. With Pro Tools I have to raise the volume on my Mbox +20dB and the quality suffers. I recently installed Izotope Rx 4 and it works pretty good but haven't been able to load it in the audio suite in Pro Tools or find many tutorial videos on Izotope. What would be the best way to make my vocals louder? Without sacrificing quality with all the noise in the background

Re: Sound Quality Pro Tools 12
sounds like you have front end problems (gain staging and/or environment), if you need RX for vocals your not recording them correctly
you have not provided enough info on your recording chain to offer any further advice

Re: Sound Quality Pro Tools 12
Well I always have a problem recording vocals no matter where I record. I'm guessing it's my voice.
I record on a MacBook Pro running the latest Yosemite, Mbox 3, Rode NT1-A microphone |

Re: Sound Quality Pro Tools 12
What pre-amps are you using? Just the MBox?

Re: Sound Quality Pro Tools 12
Yeah There is something strange going on...I have had no problems getting vocals on a couple of Older NT1's for the past 12 years or so. On Various pre's, Behringer, Mackie, Allen & Heath, Avalons, Focusrite etc... Do you have any examples that you can share? It could be either your vocal technique or your gain staging.

Re: Sound Quality Pro Tools 12
Well I also live in an apartment with 3 kids haha I should've mentioned that. I turn off the AC, but the neighbors units are outside my window. Also tell them to close the doors and turn the TVs down but I feel like I still get some background noise, like white noise. And anywhere I've ever recorded I've had to turn my vocals up louder than anyone else I record. Which in turn, makes the background noise louder.
King Life ft KiNG CAR2N (Prod by Mister NeverMind) by Salgado Music https://soundcloud.com/salgadomusic_...ster-nevermind on #SoundCloud This is a rough draft, the first verse starts around 00:38 It's a main vocal, dub, punches. |

Re: Sound Quality Pro Tools 12
I live in an apartment so I know clearing background noise is damn near impossible. But I turn the AC off in the house, close all doors, tell kids to be quiet as possible and turn TVs down haha. I was playing with the thought of getting a Kaotica Eyeball instead of a portable vocal booth to see if I can cut some noise out

Re: Sound Quality Pro Tools 12
I know I need to improve on mixing and I'm open to any suggestions. Everything I currently do to my vocals has just been me learning how to use Pro Tools. So if someone could walk me thru a step by step on what to do to get professional sounding vocals, that would be greatly appreciated! And I can save those settings for future reference
