Unchecking that box in the Hardware Engine prefs, plus running Quartz Debug/Disable Beam Sync does the trick for me in OS X 10.10.5/PT 11.3.2. Disabling Beam Sync alone never fully did the trick for me, especially when trying to automate via on-screen faders. Now, my faders mouse smoothly just like they did in Mountain Lion. Maybe that'll work for some folks with PT 12/Sierra?
