Not counter-productive at all. I'm only one person, who is a scoring engineer and I do live gigs too. I bought some AAX DSP plugins. Now I can use them in any studio be it Native or HDX, and I can use them in live sound with the new S6L.
I know many fellow engineers do the same.

I agree that HDX development may seem slow, but it's far from being over.

I don't really see the "massive price drop".. I got my Native Thunderbolt, Omni, and Pro tools HD for $4,5-5k over at Thomann 3 months ago. The new prices at Vintageking is $5498 (Native TB, Omni, PTHD)?

There are certainly more AAX-DSP plug-ins today than there were TDM after the first five years. Between Sonnox, Avid, Metric Halo, Flux and a huge percentage of Plug-in Alliance, there really is no problem.

Waves, Soundtoys, and Slate jumping in would make this a lot better.

We know Waves isn't going to, but maybe these new changes will cause the others to possibly do so.

I can pretty much guarantee Slate has 0 interest in DSP processing unless he does a complete 180 from his opinion on Dec 4 2015....Here is a link from gearslutz in his VMS tread:

https://www.gearslutz.com/board/11522191-post887.html

Steven Slate said:

"And indeed, the future in our opinion is native processing. Actually I take that back, it's the NOW. I'm writing this on a 2014 Macbook Pro. On this very machine, I can load a 96khz DAW project and load it up with 85 No Latency Virtual Mix Rack's filled each with an FG-73 British Discrete Preamp, FG-N British EQ, and FG-116 Limiter. To do that with DSP would require 7 octo cards.

So while I realize that not everyone may have an interface capable of having low latency, there are now lots of options that exist and they are only getting more affordable. If you have an interface not capable of low latency monitoring, then the best option is to record the raw ML-1 tone and add the processing later. I'll post some hi res files of the ML-1 to VMS preamp (as well as processed) so you guys can hear what it all sounds like."

But you have to count his first words,,,,,which were he was interested in it.....

He said he was down with it, then he said he wasn't going to do it.

I put him and Tony Carridi in the same boat....- lets just say don't make a bet with them and expect to win.
