Default Need Control Surface Help Please???

Hi all, i'm currently looking in to purchasing a Control Surface to use with my Mbox and 002R.

I have a few specific questions that i don't seem to be able the answers to and would really appreciate some help from some experienced users.

1) Motorized and non motorized faders, asides the obvious what are the major differences. For example if you have a Novation Remote Zero SL (Non Motor) how does a session react when you launch a mixed Pro Tools session i.e. do the faders in Pro Tools just follow whatever the HUI is set to or do they wait for you to move them before anything changes? I'm assuming on a motorized control surface that the faders just snap to the session on launch?

2) I've seen many references to some surfaces not having touch sensitive faders, is this to do with the sensitivity of the faders?

Currently i'm looking at the Novation Remote Zero SL or the Presonus faderport. Even though the faderport only has one motorized fader it would eliminate fader movements with the mouse which is greeeeat.

Thanks in Advance

thread one, thread two

There is a lot of info in those threads. the first probably has more.

You are correct about the faders snapping to the session on opening (on a motorized console). I would recommend touch sensitive faders. When in touch mode you can basically punch in on your automation by touching, then punch out by letting go. Your second assumption is somewhat correct; touch sensitive faders are more sensitive, but its a different kind of sensitivity. Touch adds such a major improvement and increases editing/mixing abilities.

Check out the Command 8. It works great! at least 24 channels, I haven't gone up to 32 yet.

Touch sen. Motorized Everything = pan, plugs, faders...etc.
