HELP! Mac OS shuts down when I start pro tools

I just loaded Pro tools 6 le for Mbox on my G4 power book.

I can load the program but when I try to load a session up, the screen darkens and it says I need to restart the computer...

Any idea how I can fix this??

hi lara,

it sounds like you are getting kernal panics. does the screen look grey and in about 500 languages it says you neeeed to restart your computer?

i would follow ALL of the suggestions in the trouble shooting thread at the top of this forum AND the COMPATABILITY section. then, i would restart the computer form a DISK WARRIOR CD and run that to rebuild the directories -- TWICE. then i would get a utility called COCKTAIL and i would have it run cron scripts, prebinding, and repair disk permissions. then i would see. if that doesn't do it, i would do a clean install of PT. if that doesn't do it, i would do a clean install of the OS. if THAT doesn't work, i would check out the Hardware with the apple utility disk to see if you had bad hardware. if that doesn't work, i would check on what kind of ram you have in that computer.

if that doesn't do it, i would take my comouter to a tech.

What version of Pro Tools LE do you have?

They have to be compatible:

and for pro tools I have pro tools le version 6.0

10.3.9 isn't approved with any version of Pro Tools... let alone 6.0 (which needs 10.2).

You can download the free update to Pro Tools LE 6.4:

That version is compatible with Mac OS X 10.3 and Mbox:

I have PTLE 6.4 and OS X 10.3 and can't launch Pro Tools any more, so don't assume your problems will end with those versions. I still can't fix mine after complete reformat. No one answered my last post about this, if anyone can help please respond.
