Fw 400/800?
Does anyone use the FW800 port on the mac pro (interface connectivity) ??
I assume that it has double the bandwidth that the standard FW400 has.....

Yep. I use it for a liquid mix with a FireWire 400 to 800 adapter. So in essence I'm still using a FireWire 400 cable so I can't comment on the bandwidth.

The port will work fine. Make sure to get a good adapter to connect your FW400 devices (interface or hard drives) as early on there were issues with some FW800 to FW400 adapters and cables. I use a Belkin cable and have never had any problems with my MacPro and MacBook Pros.

Re: Fw 400/800?
My Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 has been very stable. Although it is capable of recording at 196Khz, I still record at 44.1Khz because most of my projects end on CD's and MP3's. I've had the interface for about a year now and never had any problems. The drivers work and I almost never tweak the settings. My workflow is pretty simple and repeatable. At first I played around a lot with the liquid press and were quite impressed with what they can do. Many of my projects lately have less to do with tracking and more with importing audio and mixing in the box. I occasionally track vocals and that is when the mic press are used. I'm not sure if you have a specific question but if stability is your concern, I have not problems with that.
