Re: Using an Alesis IO/26 to expand channels
You will not get an extra 16 channels. You might get 8 via lightpipe if the unit can operate in stand-alone with the 8 mic pre's assigned to one ADAT output. If this works, it will only work at 44.1 or 48K as the lightpipe input of the 003 does not support SMUX for higher sample rates. If you already own the Alesis unit, go ahead and give it a go. If it does work, please let us know as I'm sure others are curious. There are lots of other 8 channel lightpipe preamps available, such as:
Presonus D8, Digimax, Firestudio M-Audio Octane Mackie Onyx 800R Focusrite OctoPre with option card Focusrite ISA428, ISA828 with option card

Re: Using an Alesis IO/26 to expand channels
Thank you for your answer. Yes I meant also 16 channels in total :)
On the back of my Alesis there´s an ADAT In 1 and ADAT in 2 will it be a problem that there´s no ADAT out ? |

Re: Using an Alesis IO/26 to expand channels
No ADAT out would make it useless for Pro Tools.

Re: Using an Alesis IO/26 to expand channels
I believe there is S/PDIF output that may give you a couple of extra channels of input.
