Default Audio clip sounds earlier, when a software insert is added

Hi,
I'm running into a bizarre issue time-shift issue when using any software insert on an audio track, where the recorded audio sounds earlier than it should. If I remove the 1 software insert, so that no software inserts are on the track, then the timing goes back to normal (no longer sounds earlier).

Here's what I'm doing:

1) Record vocal onto audio track, with delay compensation ON and low-latency mode ON.
2) Playback vocals with other tracks. Timing sounds fine, relative to other pre-recorded tracks.
3) Add 1 software insert to the vocal audio track. I've tried either a compressor, or auto-tune, either one but NOT chained.
4) Playback vocals with other tracks. The vocals sound like they are shifted earlier and not in sync with the other tracks.

I'm really puzzled. Does anyone know what is causing this?

My system:
MacBookPro
Mac OSX Mavericks 10.9
Avid HD Omni
Pro Tools HD 11

Thanks!
Alex

i'll speculate a little here. It can depend on what other plugins are being used, particularly if you are using midi or virtual instruments and the compensation for external devices box is ticked off in the midi preference tab in preferences. Usually that makes midi tracks sound late, particularly if you are using lookahead compressors on the master bus. Could the audio track actually be in time with the click and all the midi tracks are late?? Does it make a difference if the track is armed or not armed?
Try a new session and just use a click with some audio.
I never use low latency mode because it muted a few tracks entirely the one time I tried it. I never really needed it but I think I don't know how or when to use it and what it's limitations are.

When you have inserted the plugin of choice, try turning the Latency Off and also see if the delay comp turned off changes anything
