Default 192 AD Expansion Card Noisy Channels

Anyone have any thoughts as to why channels 1&2 would ne noisy and distorted? All other channels work fine. The card was working perfectly until i sent it to a relatively new user. Would love any suggestions as to how he could troubleshoot it.

Thanks!

How noisy? Very?

We have had bad experiences with the 192 ADs, we consider them unreliable.

Our 192 had 4 channels down, the chips just fried, heat related. The input chips are in pairs, hence 1&2 (for example) going together.

Sending the AD board of to Digi for a service was cheap (~£150) and the tunraround was VERY quick. They just replaced the AD board with a new one.

We also had 1and 2 A/D go bad(noisy) on our 192 (twice). Digi repair was very fast!!

This seems to be a widespread problem that appears to crop up over time, like there might be a bad batch of parts in these units. Do a search of the DUC and you will find numerous threads of people with the same problem. My experience was that it started with one channel, and then gradually spread to other channels.

You can test your card by switching it from the expansion slot to the main A/D slot. If the problem follows the card, then the 192 chassis is OK.

i'm about to send mine in for repair for the whole unit ($499 advance replacement). DA channels 7-8 have noise at -70 db and AD channel 3 rolls off to -4 db at 20k. the noise doesn't seem like that bad of a deal until you realize that i'm using a summing buss and it ends up at -60 db or so before coming back in AD. fortunately it looks like insurance will cover it.
